Clearest audio - BCD 396XT or GRE PSR 500?

I have a hearing loss and while I've narrowed down my purchase choice to these two units, I have no way of knowing which has the stronger audio. Obviously a subjective call but thought I'd ask those of you who have listened to both to offer your observations. Need a good mix of treble and bass, minimum of static and background noise, clean/precise transmission.

Have you considered an external powered speaker?

To complicate matters further, I think I've gathered from various posts that the difference in the position of the speaker in the PSR-500 and the Pro 106 makes a difference in the audio.
