Encription, is that really Legal
Encription, I wounder if that is legal, for the public paid services enventually to seperate them self from the public. I agree with some encription, but not general public safety radio traffic. Wounder if the Goverment was challenged on this. Contact the M.P., have some one really look into this.

Don't know about the law in Canada, but in the U.S., there are very specific laws which give private citizens access to certain government records, documents, meetings, etc. Public service communications are not among those things listed anywhere that I'm aware of. Certainly no such right federally nor in Wisconsin.

I wish they would get rid of encrypted. I can see it sometimes for security reasons my local PD has securenet and me and a few other guys have tried to crack it but it just changes the encryption code on every encrypted transmission it would take us years to figure it out. I heard that the officers get on there though and abuse it and talk about non law enforcement related stuff which could get them in trouble since every bit of traffic is recorded.

I think that some one should start looking into this,a pro that has goverment experence and the time and money, to do the research or any M.P. that is pro scanning, I think that most will think its just eves dropping, lets say if every one had scanners with the public ears and eyes ,criminals will have a hard time getting away for still most of us are still honest. The London police chiefs argument was that the public was at the accident scene before they were, there are 300,000 cars in london and some are bound to be at the scence before they are, more by chance. But as for the goverment, give them [the public]something to listen to or they will get it another way, this aready shows with trying to crack securenet, that as time goes on , home computors are becoming more powerful each year, the U.S. satilite receiver, that signal has just been changed, but before that people were down loading files off the internet and got it up and running, the same will happen with scanning unless some channels are kept open to the public.

I think what you're saying is that someone should challenge the use of encryption by public safety agencies. In other words, you believe encryption use by public safety should be outlawed. That's not gonna happen. Public Safety users have every right to encrypt their channels if they wish. On the other hand, you have no "right" to monitor any of their transmissions in the first place.

Based on the OP's question and position on the matter, this is not a General Scanning topic. It would be better re-posted in the Eastern Canada forum.
