700MHZ help needed
I live in La. , the local sheriff office is changing from 155.730 to using a 700. ??? freq.
My question is, what scanner will I need to buy that will cover all the 700 MHZ band. I have been looking and can not seem to find a scanner that shows the 700 band. Surely , some scanner out there will cover this.
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP ANY OF YOU MAY BE ABLE TO GIVE ME ON THIS

Very likely they are moving to a 700 MHz P25(digital) trunked system, and there are multiple scanners available that will allow you to continue to listen in.
The PSR-500 and PSR-600, manufactured by GRE, as well as the Radio Shack Pro-106 and Pro-197 (also manufactured by GRE) immediately come to mind. There are also some Uniden scanners that will meet your requirements too, but being unfamiliar with them I'll leave it to others to elucidate those particular models.

Yes many agencies in LA are going on board the LWIN 700 MHz P-25 statewide TRS.... You want to get one of the following family of scanners... Radio Shack PRO-106/107 GRE PSR500/600 Uniden BCD396/996T or the XT versions. For further assistance with LWIN please ask in the LA forums. TY in advance.

It will most likely be digital (P25), and there are currently several choices that I would suggest comparing: Uniden 396XT/996XT, GRE PSR500/PSR600, Radio Shack Pro-106/Pro-197. You will need to decide whether you prefer a handheld or desktop/mobile radio. If price is an issue, Radio Shack sometimes puts their radios on sale (they were recently $100 off). Study the owner's manuals and research people's opinions here at Radio Reference for the different models.
I wouldn't rush into a decision unless you want to get a new radio right away. Sometimes it takes longer than expected to implement changes like that, and by then there may be other/newer radios to choose from. Just a thought.
Good luck and happy shopping!!
