Default Brand differences for VHF monitoring

I've heard some of the new digital capable scanners are fairly deaf for VHF monitoring. I am interested in portable scanners to monitor VHF P25 systems, such as CAP and some feds, as well as Colorado DTRS. Can anyone offer input on which of the digital scanner crop will be the least deaf on VHF?

Any scanner/radio made by GRE whether its GRECom PSR's or the PRO series for Radio Shack has super hot front ends.. They time and time again beat out Unidens in the field. The Unidens are good, but the GRE's just do better on front end reception. I have personal experience with the RS PRO-96 on VHF P-25, and it performed flawlessly.

In contrast to that, I wouldn't call the Uniden deaf by any means. Any hotter and I'd need to run attenuation on mine.

Take reviews with a grain of salt, people exaggerate or make statements that aren't really practical operating info...and this isn't referring to the Milf, just reviews in general...particularly eham.net :-).

Too hot a front-end can be very annoying with a scanner...ever use an old Icom R1...totally useless for scanning. Great fixed channel receiver though.

One of the reasons I went Uniden was that a super hot receiver in this area just aggravates things because it is so RF dense. I wouldn't call the GRE excessive though, but their rep is hotter than the Unidens.

Oh I did forget to mention that there was one set made by Uniden for RS that was excellent.... But wasn't digital capable lol... The RS PRO-94's and PRO-2052's.... The only drawbacks I had with them was the following facts... No Alpha Tagging, No digital, and No UHF MilAir capability other than the upper 380-400 MHz band, which is now defunct as its used for P-25 Trunking in the US...

Thanks for the feedback. I'm definitely in the market for a digital capable scanner, so any info on VHF digital is useful.

Thanks again!
