Default New To The Scanner Industry

Hello, I have never owned a scanner before, I bought this one to help me in the taxi industry. I have most of the taxi frequencies in Las Vegas with the exception of Yellow. I saw and entered the 157.27000 & 157.45000 but they don't work on my scanner. Does anyone have the correct frequency?

My scanner is the Radio Shack Pro 164 1000 channels I programmed a few of the channels for other cab companies successfully. What I don't understand is the trunking. Am I suppose to do something there so I can pick up the telephone calls into the particular cab companies? I appreciate any help. Thank you .

From what I am reading here, you want to use your scanner to jump in front of other cabs?

If so, I don't think you will find much assistance stealing business from another company. I would think there are also some local regulations regarding this type of activity as well..

Being a former commercial two-way tech and worked with many cab companies, these "stealing" tactics are a good way to get your knees cracked, especially in a place like Vegas. They will not take it lightly.

Had many cabbies come to me looking for "magical radios" that would let them beat even their fellow employees to the customer.

Cut throat business.

What the op seem s to want to do is technically "theft of services" which is why many taxi services are opting for nextel or encryption on their radios. We have 4 different taxi companies here constantly bickering with each other, hence the encryption option.

I believe this is using a scanner for "personal gain" which is prohibited by law, correct? I would still help the OP with his question and turn my head to what he's doing, however, I believe if he jumps in front of the other cabs enough, they will be suspicious and theres a good chance he'll get caught.

I respect your disagreement, I didn't say it was right, we're all sinners, that's one of mine....

Default New to the scanner industry

First off, a warm welcome to Radioreference. I checked the following databases for your two frequencies & this is what came up.

RadioReference.com - Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference
Nevada Yellow Cab Co. of Las Vegas
KNNU516
152.27 MHz 155DPL
152.45 MHz 155DPL

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Home Page
Nevada Yellow Cab Co. of Las Vegas
KNNU516
152.27 MHz
157.53 MHz

Nevada Yellow Cab Co. of Las Vegas
WNCN965
452.85 MHz
457.85 MHz

Scanner Frequencies
Nevada Yellow Cab Co. of Las Vegas
KNNU516
151.985 MHz
152.36 MHz
152.3675 MHz
152.37 MHz
152.45 MHz
152.99 MHz
157.62 MHz
157.6275 MHz
157.635 MHz
157.71 MHz
159.66 MHz
159.84 MHz

Nevada Yellow Cab Co. of Las Vegas
WNCN965
452.85 MHz
457.85 MHz

I hope that your use of these frequencies is just for your enjoyable listening purposes when you are off duty, I'm not familiar with Las Vegas however I am familiar with taxi call jumping being from Noo Yawk & I've seen many cabbies get really messed up when they got caught doing this, being in a hospitals intensive care unit suffering from numerous assorted fractures, massive internal injuries & other serious trauma is not worth the extra tip. Good luck.

Wink

Just make sure that you take all your fares from the airport to the Strip through the tunnel route. That way you'll make enough money to buy a new scanner ;~)
