What's the best way to verify a frequency?
My county has very outdated frequencies listed on RR and I'm wanting to submit new and updated info, but RR wants them to be verified and detailed as to what they are for. I live in a county that is fairly rural and many of the frequencies are shared among fire, police, ambulence etc. So How can I submit a new frequency without it being used by one outfit? I've gotten the freqs. off the FCC website but their descriptions are pretty vauge to. They all are classified as PW Public Safety Pool, Conventional. They don't specify fire, police ect. which is understandable when everything is shared. Even between towns they are shared. Thanks for your help.

Wirelessly posted (MOT-QA30/00.72 UP.Browser/7.2.7.5.610 (GUI) MMP/2.0)
You may want to check to make sure you aren't just looking at the analog freqs.
When you go to your state's page, there should be a button that says "trunked systems." Go through that list to see if you have a statewide system or a system for your specific county.
Are you actually hearing traffic on the freqs you said you found on the FCC's site?

FCC license info is not 'verified info', regardless. It's what you use to start research, to tell you where to listen. Many FCC licenses are unused in the real world... and many more users are operating without licenses.
'Verified' means you personally listened to the channel, and have positively identified who is using it for what.
Example:
154.310 - San Diego Fire Department [Not verified, no details of what it's used for, but in fact, it's listed as licensed by the FCC]
154.310 - San Diego Fire Department - Old Dispatch channel, now unused, but still occasional radio tests, and very rarely may be patched to the current trunked dispatch talkgroup [Accurate, verified by listening info[

Hi Dracer777, There is no trunked or digital systems used in my area. Well the power company uses a trunked system but I don't scan them. Everything in my area is standard analog, and yes I do receive on the channels that I've found on the FCC's site.

Hi Skipsanders, I have been listening to them for a few months now, that's how I know that they are being shared among departments as I had said in my original post. My question is how can you submit a new freq. when RR wants to know who uses it, ie' fire, police, etc. when it's being shared for all of them, not just one department.

This is quite common with small municipal entities. The best way to submit is to list them as X town Municipal or X town Police, Fire Amb, DPW. There is a function tag for this: Multi-Dispatch – For combined law enforcement and fire/EMS dispatch. Often, if you listen carefully, you will find that the primary user is Fire or Police, but they can use the other's channel for TAC comms.

Just messing around, I found this Iowa listing in the DB Plymouth County, Iowa (IA) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference Plymouth County, city of Akron there is a listing like what I think your talking about. 155.8800 police and fire. Did you try to submit what you want as say "Countywide Dispatch" or "Countywide PD and FD" or similar? Just a thought.

If it's multi use, the type is 'Local Government - Police and Fire (and whatever else). That's the point of submitting, give the actual use, not generic 'Local Government', but 'Local Government: Police and Fire Dispatch'.
