Default BC780XLT - Can't buy new anymore?

After a lot of research on scanners I have finally decided on a bc780xlt. The reason is I don’t want to spend the money for a digital, the display is suppose to be the best ever, and it has alpha tags. This model is supposedly not sold new anymore. I see that ebay sales are pegged at around $220 - $250 for used ones. I didn’t call the site below yet, but I was wondering if anyone knows if these units can still be purchased new. (like the site implies) I live in the Michigan Oakland County area and understand that Oakland County will go to MA-Com soon. I can always use this unit in other areas. Any comments would be appreciated.

WAY TOO MUCH $$$, even if sold new! Especially if you will need a trunk scanner after 800MHz rebanding. I'd keep trying Ebay or other places for a less expensive price, if you have your sights set on a 780xlt.

I've been picking them up for $125 since our area is moving to digital. Even though I have a 796 the 780 makes a perfect #2 scanner for everything else. Good Luck. Larry

You might post a "wanted to buy" message in the classifieds here on RR.

Unfortunately Uniden has discontinued the 780. It's a shame because it is such a great radio. I bought my first one right after they came out...within the year I had a 2nd one for mounting in my vehicle. I've had the opportunity to program and use both the 796 and 785 and I don't like them simply because the display was changed and isn't as user-friendly as the display in the 780.

As previously posted here, post a classified and keep searching eBay. If you have any scanner/ham stores in your area check with them as well. Even if they don't have any left in stock they might know someone who does. You might even want to start checking garage sales and flea markets.

Good luck in your search!

.....now if they only made a digital radio with the 780's display
