Hey guys,
Just a quick question - what is the 4xxxx TGID problem that this update fixes? I don't think I've every experienced the problem to know what it is.
Thanks!

A brief explanation can be found here, as well as other threads.

Could anyone advise me what this upgrade does for the radio, does it improve signals on CQPSK systems?

Part of the problem I had was that I bought it from Scanners Unlimited instead of the Radio Shack Store or RadioShack.com. The first question from the people at the first two stores were "Did you buy it from here?", the first and only question from the Third store was "Is it in warranty?"
The response I got back from Radio Shack support when I was having problems was to call the district manager and talk with them. But since I found a store that would take it, I'm all set.
If you bought it from Radio Shack, either a store or on-line, you shouldn't have any problem. If you bought it anywhere else, be prepaired to have the manager of the store call the District Manager (or you may have to do so yourself) to have them accept the radio for the upgrade.

Well this doesn't apply. It was a present. So I didn't buy it at all (I have no receipt information on the radio), hence my initial worry. I find it amusing that someone would ask if it is "In Warranty". Since it has a year warrenty period and the radio wasn't sold until August or September of last year, I guess it all of the radios in existance are In Warranty.

Just tell them it was a gift, tell them when you got it, and if they give you a hassle, tell them to call the district manager or call them yourself. When they asked me about the warranty, it told them flat out that the radio became available less than a year ago, so yes, it's under warranty.

You just have to love the "go search" answer. That's sure to help keep folks coming to this site.

What is the address and Telephone number so that I can get ahold of them? Or can you just send it in without calling? What needs to be sent in with the radio? I have two stores in my area and both looked at me crazy and stated Radio Shack was not doing Updates.
Thanks,

The way to get it into the repair facility is A) Take it directly to the repair facility in person. You can not ship it to them. B) Take it to your local Radio Shack. They will ship it for you.
If you take it to a Radio Shack and they will not or do not know what you are talking about. They can call me Michael, Store Manager @ 01-3235 using the inter-store communications. I've already had several stores call me to ask what is going on and how to handle the upgrade/repair so no worries.
If they flat out refuse to help, ask to speak to the District Manager, if they fail to help ask for the Regional Manager then there is always the Division Vice President.
If you get great service call 1-800-the-shack and ESPECIALLY call if you get told to go away. That is Radio Shack's Customer Care line, they WILL get results for you.

DVP?? That would be funny if one of those guys got a call about a scanner. I'm sure shit would hit the fan. Guaranteed they would not have any idea what you're talking about. Also, you can have them call 8519 and ask for Ross if they have questions. Hey Michael, did you get the ICST for those Pro 95?

Not yet. I did however ask my DM to scrounge for me. I got 12 in today, that should last about 1-2 weeks. If you calc'd based on 3 MOH, I should have about 40+ at any given time.
You liked the DVP comment. I'm fairly certain they wouldn't have a clue either but the excrement would definately hit the proverbial fan.

I'll just repost what I said before...
V1.1 is the original version.
V1.2 fixes the TG lockout (above CH 4-08 ) bug.
V1.3 fixes the 48xxx TG reception problem.
It's not necessary if you can live with the bugs, but it may be to your
advantage to get it done for free while you can. You may be able to live
without it right now, but if your local system (or a new system) uses
any of the affected TGs, you wil have to pay for it later. Or, if you
sell your unit, it will be worth more without the bugs - especially if
someone needs to listen to the 48xxx TGs.
It does not improve signals on CQPSK except for the V1.3 fix.

Sorry Radio Shack Canada has nothing to do with scanners anymore, they most likley never even heard of the Pro-96!.And as for helping you ,they can't it is not one of there products.
So your best way of getting the upgrade v1.3 is to send it to your dealer in the USA and they will send it to Texas, back to your dealer and then back to Canada,it should take 5-8 weeks  unless you bought it on the Eastcoast USA you may recieve it a bit quicker, the Westcost is a long wait.
Plus you will have to pay the shipping,I don't think the dealer will pay anything!,and hope they don't charge us GST,QST,when it comes back into Canada?
So I remember the shipping was around $65us ,but they have to ship it to texas,so it will be over $100.00us,hard to say but just ask your dealer
to make sure.
Good luck

By all means if they don't help, make a stink but don't go in with a chip on your shoulder. I always go over and beyond for the pleasant customers and those who are not I do ONLY what I must.
An ounce of sugar.....

Exactly why I won't even bother trying to do this upgrade. It is just not worth the cost involved for that .
I have had mine since last Oct. did the dsp upgrade back in January and that is good enough for me. The 40xxx plus tg's are analog here so I will listen to them with the BC 245 if I really need to .
