Use and add to the software downloads section . . .

http://www.radioreference.com/module...name=Downloads

Many of the above resources are already listed there and have links, reviews, ratings . . .

The software page over at Strong Signals also has a substantial listing:

Thought I would bring this thread back up, since there has been alot of questions about software for this and that scanner.

I figure this list would help someone, since not everyone checks the download section of this site.

This is an interesting list, even if one or two of the links are dead. A couple of comments are in order;

a. Avoid Scan Pro products like the plague. In general, they simply don't seem to perform very well.

b. Winscan 2.1 for the 245/895 is not rated to work on the newer Windows OS such as XP; as such it may or may not work. In fact, there has been little newer software development for these scanners, with the exception of Scan Control http://www.scannersoft.com which does work with the newer OSs. Unlike Scan Control (which has it's own Yahoo group) Pozilla's product support is very suspect.

c. The widely acknowledged champ for all the Uniden digital trunktrackers is ARC250, with Trunkstar's offering a close second. I think the same could be said about ARC780 and Trunkstar 780 for the BC780.

d. I haven't read all that much about their offerings for these scanners, but for the AR8200, Uniden SC200 and Icom R2, BuTel has products for all
of them (ARC8200,ARC200 and ARC2 respectively). Given their excellant track record for their other products, I would expect the same of these as well.

e. Many of the scanners listed have their own Yahoo groups, and often you can get opinions - and sometimes even programming files - on the
various software offerings. It's an inexpensive way to find out about these packages before you buy them.

What about ScanCat Plus for the Uniden Digitals? It appears to have a million features, but its very difficult to determine what features work with a particular radio.

Does anyone have experience with ScanCat and the Uniden digitals?

Your comment brings up an interesting question - what feature(s) are you specifically looking for in your software? I might understand selecting Scancat if the software supports multiple radios that you own, and you don't want the bother of transferring files from one radio to another thru some sort of translation process (such as exporting them to a csv file, then importing).

There is a Scancat egroup on Yahoo where specific questions about the software can be answered. Jim Springer (the author and owner) is a frequent visitor there.

Just as a point of reference (ok, I'm guilty of a little ego boo here )
The Strong Signals page is unique in that, not only does it list where you can link to get reviews (where known), but also, where known, you can find the Yahoo Egroup that supports it.

AFAIK, it's the only page on the Net that lists this kind of information in this way.

BuTel software has packages for both the AR8200 and Icom R3; I would bet that if you checked on those radio's Yahoo groups, BuTel's software ranks right up there - and you can't beat the support.

The URLs are:

You can always run these under "compatability mode" that will let you run it under the settings / features of a previous version of windows. I have used this with a number of programs and it does work.

No, and Win95 only works with the Pro-95. Win92 works with the Pro-92/2067, Win93 works with the Pro-93/2053 and Win96 works with the Pro-96.

Winxx converter works with all four programs except converts only to p96, not from. The other three go both directions.

There's only 1 package that *might* work with the new PRO94B series; Scancat Lite Plus (which is a programming-only package). I'm not sure how much Jim Springer has actually tested with a PRO94B; I did mention a lack of consistent testing in my review of the software (which is published on the popular Strong Signals webste).

However, the plus to this is that the Scancat Yahoo group is somewhere you can go for support and Jim is a frequent visitor there.

As an aside, while most of the current PRO9x series are GRE/RS products, I believe that the 94B is actually a Uniden product; however, I think I read somewhere that it doesn't really use Uniden firmware codes, so software for , say the 245, won't work here.

My old friend Mark Fine decided to close down Fineware last year; but yes, that RLDB product he used to distribute was a nice piece of software. But not for scanners.....the same can be said of ILGRadio.
