Default NY State Files Request For Waiver 700 Rules

Even though the request will only cover the New York City area, if approved by the FCC it will set a new standard for sharing of 700 MHz spectrum prior to the final move date in 2009 nationwide.

The waiver, FCC Docket No. 06-18, request the FCC to change the protection criteria for public safety and incumbant TV stations. The state says that there is a critical need for a new state public safety system to provide spectrum for police and fire in the New York city area. That they need to start construction immediately.

Only two of the UHF tv stations have opposed the waiver, they are WMBC-TV and WFUT-TV. There are approximately 15 other stations that could have objected.

The waiver request includes technical data that shows there will be no interference in the granting of the waiver.

There are 15 other stations in or near the affected spectrum or 15 other stations that couldn't give a rat's rear since it wouldn't affect them?
