Default Uniden BC255/BC790???

was floating around the p96 yahoo group, and came across a post that said Uniden was coming out with a 255 and 790? they are (supposedly) "uniden's answer to the radioshack pro 96".

The only groups that I'm aware of state that they were renamed (moved) to the BC296D and BC796D lists.

When (what date) was that posted that you saw?

The only time I saw these referred to were some Yahoo groups that sprouted right about the same time as the BC250 came out. Because the 250 came out after the 245, some people were convinced the next model would be the 255 (and since the 780 had its 785 cousin, the 790 would be the next logical progression in that line). I joined the group for a bit to see what was known about these radios, and one of the central common threads was that these were NOT just someone's speculation on what the next scanner up from the 250 would be, but actual working devices on a test bench somewhere at Uniden. A lot of the messages consisted of people asking for hard proof, and the people who were claiming these radios existed, responding that they had confirmation that those radios were in preproduction for sure, and they would be delivered as the 255 and 790. When I left the group, I got an email asking why, and I said I was taking a look, and not interested in speculation and such. I got a tremendous rant from the listowner, about how I was so wrong, and had no right to question their claim that the radios existed.

That's what I saw. Your mileage may vary, take it as you may.

Yep - they were models in production. They just changed the naming format and called them the BC296D and BC796D. Uniden is again changing the format conventions with the 898 replacing the 895 (only 3 units higher, not 5), and 246 (only one unit higher). I guess they got tired of being predictable.
