Default Can't hear Local Police, missing something??

I have recently bought a Uniden BC246T. I used ARC246 and connected to RR and download all the conventional and trunked systems that I want to hear within my area. I get most of the county and state transmissions along with EMS and fire. I am sure there are more I could get, but I am going with the only channels, id's and freq. I can get from RR. My question is, I live in a town called Fruitland, which neighbors another city called Salisbury. I can hear all the transmissions from the Salisbury Police, fire and EMS, along with the county and State Police, but I get nothing from the Fruitland Police or fire. I know they are programmed into the scanner, because every once in a while, as I have had the scanner for little over a week, I have heard 3 transmissions from them. Is there any reason why I would not pick up their transmissions besides their ID's or freq. aren't all in the scanner? Even when I do hear them, the transmissions, they aren't strong signals compared to the Salisbury signals. Any info for me??? Thanks in advance.

I suspect you're in Maryland; c'mon over to the Maryland forum and repost this (since cross posting is not allowed here, just change the wording slightly) - no doubt someone in the Salisbury/OC area can give you some pointers.

If not in Maryland, select the state where you are, and continue as above.

Do you have the Wicomico Public Safety System programmed in ?

What sort of antenna are you using ?

I only see these talkgroups listed :
2384 Fruitland Police
3216 Fruitland Police
2672 FRUITLAND FD 3

Doesn't appear that your community has much activity
(a good thing safety-wise , but not very interesting if you want to monitor)

Hi JRC and all,

Cummon guys, he's probably from California where they can't distinguish an orchard from San Fransisco. (;->)

Never mind the fruits, if you heard anything (and you said you did) on any given channel you programmed it correctly. My guess is they're so little used (Low crime area ?) there is little to no routine traffic. Is your town policed by another agency like the county or state and you have Public Works programmed and they have nothing to talk about?

If it weren't for the fact that I have the scanner going so much I'd think MY local PD channels were wrong, there's so little for the cops to do around here I seldom hear them at all. The town I used to live in doesn't even have a PD, the whole township is covered by the state and the crime of the century was a dog pooping on someone's lawn. They have a VFD with nothing to do but have a weekly dinner, the menu is posted on a portable sign at the corner of a state highway (a two lane cow path) and the county road.

Consider yourself lucky, any place (like New York) with more police channels than your scanner can hold is not a place you want to live.
