Default Programming Scanner Cable

Howdy,
What cable would be the best bang for the buck? Im wanting to
program my own scanner so I dont have to take it to anywhere
else. Im looking at the programming cable on the http://www.pro96.com will that be good?

*If* you are wanting to `program' a PRO-96 just go back to RadioShack and pick up the RS# 20-289 cable. It *is* worth it!

Okay i followed the directions on how to get all the frequency's
but it doesnt seem to scan all the local frequencies like for instance
the police or fire department? Or do I have to program them in?
After i use the pro 95 program to unlock the frequencies

Use Win95 and you can program in the freqs,.. make sure to set them to the proper mode, unlocked, and with the right delay settings. For basic conventional freqs-FM, for Motorola Trunking systems-MO, for EDACS Trunking systems-ED, for aircraft-AM.

Hints,.. when programming in a EDACS Trunked system, start at chan 01 in a bank, not 00, and program in proper LCN Order.

Do not use the last bank for trunking.

Example:

Conventional system in use in a town-
Mode = FM
Bank 1
Chan 00 - 155.5950
Chan 01 - 155.5350
Chan 02 - 460-5000
Chan 03 - 154.2650

Motorola Trunking
Mode = MO
Bank 2
Chan 00 - 855.0125
Chan 01 - 855.7375
*And so on,.. TG ID's you put in the special box for those.*

EDACS Trunking
Mode = ED
Bank 3
Chan 00 - Empty
Chan 01 - 866.2125 (LCN 1)
*And so forth,.. again TG ID's go in the special box for those.*

Aeronautican stuff
Mode = AM
Bank 4
Chan 00 - 121.2500

**Special Note**
If any of the frequencies/systems is using any digital modulation, you will not be able to monitor them/it.

On a Motorola ASTRO 3600 Mixed Mode you can hear the analog TG's but Not the digital.
On a Motorola ASTRO-25 fully digital system, forget it entirely.
On an EDACS Provoice,.. if there are analog TG's you can hear them,.. but not Provoice Digital. If the EDACS system uses ESK forget hearing anything.

On an LTR Trunking system, you can not trunk track with a 95, you can monitor it conventionally, but if its a busy system it will be difficult.

ok, just got this new 2096 scanner from radio shack. first trunk,digital scanner I have ever
gotten. I downloaded the program, don't have any cables, the guy at radioshack said they are not selling them anymore???? Do I just put my frequencies in the police/ambulance
portion of this and download it? Ofcourse, once I get the cable...I tried doing it by hand and all I get is a buzzing sound when I should be hearing what they are saying...I have checked my squelch and it is fine...HELP!!

Radioshack's web site is showing the cable discontinued for online sales but available in stores (20-289). Check the website to see if any stores near you has it. Also see the WIKI here for other sources:
