Default Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Radios

http://www1.eps.gov/spg/DHS%2DBT/USC...SynopsisR.html

Bureau of Customs and Border protection (CBP) the Department of Homeland Security(DHS) is seeking industrry interest and infromation on a requirement for a lowercost version of hand held land Mobile Radios. DHS has several LMR networks are national in extent and scope. These networks operate in the VHF range of 162 To 174 MHz. The systems function with repeaters mounted on towers, providing extended coverage in a particular geographic area. Each radio can communicate with other users either by way of the nearest repeater or directly with other radios. The current LMR is simmular to many public safety hand held radios and is of approximate dimention 6.5"X2,5"X1.5" with an 8.5 " monopole antenna. The govermnent is seeking alternative solutions that can provide the following minimum subset of the performance capabilities of current LMR, but at a significantly lower cost. * Frequency 162-174 MHz * 4 channel capable of digital opertions and APCO-25 Compliant. * Current DES FIPS-140 certified encryption with potential for upgrade to AES capability by Decemeber 2004. * Current or potential for upgrade to OTAR capability by December 2004. * 5W transmit power. * 8 Hour battery charge (80-10-10 duty cycle). * Commercial ruggedized (not required military specifications) The goverment will consider any alternatives regardless of size that can meet the above capabilities and provide effective communications via a hand held device. Vendor discretion will determin internal funtions such as processing methods, schemes, etc.
