Looking for input on new listening shack...
Hey guys I hope to get some good and helpful input on this. I'm starting to run out of space in my bedroom with my radio equipment. I'm starting to run out of electrical options and don't want to overload them and start a fire. So anyway, I'm thinking of building a listening post/shack in my backyard. I figure I can finally install the tilt over mast, from the scanner stand man and get some antennas at a higher elevation. I would also be able to put in ample amounts of electrical outlets, I think overall it would be a good idea. I just want some suggestions about the advantages/disadvantages of building a shack from scratch or modifying one of the many sheds/shops pre-built models available at any Lowes or Home Depot. I would want the shack to be approximately 12 ft (w) by 20 ft (L). ( http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...ing%20Products)
Please give me any advice, especially from someone who has maybe made or installed one of these units and used it as a listening post or ham shack. Thanks.

I forgot to add that I would want to modify those units (if I decide to use one) with electricity, insulation, drywall, etc.

Are you going to have problem with zoning and building permits. I live in a small county and even here the property appraiser uses areal photographs to spot new additions and then you get a visit from the county to see what you have.

Umm not really. I live in a city, but my area is rural. I am basically going to pass it off as a work shed, if it comes down to. Heat now I will probably end up using a small space heater, and as for ac, I would be able to use a small ac in one of the windows.
