Don't forget the PRO-2096, BCD996T and BCD396T.

I would shy away from the first gen Unidens that require the BCi25D digital card to decode P25. IIRC, they also won't track a P25 9600 baud control channel. Don't know about rebanding.

I've been fairly satisfied with the P25 decoding on my PRO-96 and PRO-2096. I really like the audio quality I get from the 2096 with just the stock speaker. One of the major positives for the 96 and 2096 with a lot of people is the P25 audio quality, I think.

However, the PRO-96 has a wide open receiver front end that gets overloaded very easily in dense RF environments. I'm not sure about the 2096 because I use it as a base and I'm not near any major RF sources. But with my 96, I can be right up the street less than a mile from a transmitter I'm listening to, and if there are enough Nextel and/or cell sites around, the front end gets overloaded and the digital voice is reduced to unintelligible garbage.

In that regard, I've heard that the BCD396T is a little better. I've never used a 396, but I have handled one and I like the size and build quality much better than a PRO-96. As for the other models, I have no experience.

Also, don't forget to consider the forthcoming PSR-500 and PSR-600 from GRE, the makers of the PRO-96 and PRO-2096. There's a thread in the GRE area.
