Default Rockdale Sheriff Deputy Nails House with patrol Car

There have been a few posts floating around the Internet over the last week that Rockdale GA didn't even have a sheriff. Well one of his deputies just lost control of a patrol car while responding emergency to a burglary in progress.

To quote AJC news report...

Rockdale deputy hurt when car hits house | ajc.com

A Rockdale County Sheriff’s deputy was flown to a hospital after flipping his patrol car and crashing into a house.

Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash, which occurred around 3 p.m. Friday.

The patrol car landed upside down outside the Rockdale County house.

The deputy, who’s name is not being released, was responding to a report of a burglary in progress when he crashed, State Patrol officials said.

Heading south on McDaniel Mill Road in western Rockdale County — with emergency lights and sirens going — the deputy’s squad car crested a hill then lost control, State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said.

“As he came over a hill, he crossed into the northbound lane and onto the east shoulder, where he struck a mailbox, a street sign and the culvert,” Wright said.

The car began to overturn while still moving, and struck a light pole, then a section of a house at 1020 McDaniel Mill Road, he said.

“Once the wheels leave the pavement, it’s difficult to regain control” of the car, Wright said.

Two people inside the house were uninjured, authorities said.

The deputy was able to crawl from the overturned car, but was flown by helicopter to Grady Memorial Hospital with “injuries not believed to be life-threatening,” Wright said.

...

Of course why would RadioReference.com have radio data for the Rockdale Sheriff if Rockdale did not have one? IMHO that should have been the real 'duh' answer to that post.

FWIW all GA Counties have a sheriff, it is the basic form of local law enforcement under Georgia law.

Everyone else in a GA County ultimately get their authority for law enforcement from the local GA County sheriff. He theoretically could do away with the local city police etc in his county if he wants to. Too bad the infamous Sheriff Victor Hill never went that route, that would have been interesting.
