I have monitored the control channel over the last 24 hours and can confirm that there is heavy traffic on 1001 and 1002, probably the dispatches. Originally the scanner would stop on the frequencies, but no audio was transmitted suggesting team. Now I can hear what sounds like pro voice encryption squabble, suggesting phase 1 encrypted comms. Since the system defaults to the lesser radio standard on the network, it seems like they may be operating phase 1 since the trooper and Richmond county radios are phase 1 capable. However the encryption makes it not worth monitoring. I am considering the psr-800 but if the comms are encrypted, it doesn't make much sense. If someone has an 800 and is monitoring successfully, let me know.
Thanks...

Ok I got Pro96Com running on my BC996XT and it has been logging data for about an hour.
Site ID: 101 (T0101)
WACN: BEE00
SysID: 540
So far I see 6 talkgroup IDs and 38 Radio IDs. Now if someone could inform me how we can use the data that I'm collecting for monitoring that would be great. I can maybe send the data log to you if that would help. Also how long would you say I should log? couple days?

That's a good question. My PRO-106 was displaying ID 1001,1002,1,2, an 4. I am not sure if those were talk groups or radio id's. I am not an expert on this so hopefully someone else can shed info. I have a PSR-800 on the way, but I am not very optimistic since the comms I have heard are encrypted on phase 1. I think they may be encrypted on phase 2 also. I can see the phase 2 comms because the scanner will stop on the freq, by of course it is silent. I will update when I get my PSR. It should arrive on the 9th. Unfortunately, my PRO-106 on/off button stopped turning the scanner on and off, so it is on its way to SquareTrade.

Now on the side of the Pro96Com window it shows 7 TGs but in the list I only see 3
1
2
4
and Now up to 73 Radio IDs
What other Info do we need for monitoring other than the rest of the TGs?

I'm now seeing 14 TalkGroup IDs and 170 Radio IDs. I'm going to try to program this system in my scanner with the Talkgroups that I have found so far and see if I can hear anything. Will have to figure out what Talkgroup is what. I will let you guys know if I have any luck...

I need Help!! I don't have a clue to what I'm doing and don't know much about P25... I'm trying to add some of the data that Pro96Com has collected into my BC996XT and I can't seem to get anything to work. Not sure I'm reading the data correctly to begin with and none of the talk groups have descriptions so its a lot of unknowns with numbers... I could try to post some of this data but I'm not sure what is what and there is a lot!

The 996XLT cannot receive P-25 Phase II comms, only Phase I.
I'd be interested in seeing the System540 folder, I'll PM my email address. The control channel is weak here, so I can't reliably gather data from Pro96com.

As you are running Pro96com, watch the type column, if you see a lot of Group(ENC) means that they are using encryption.

Mark.

I have been running pro96com on this for about an hour now and it does look like they are encrypted. I am seeing Group(ENC) a lot. I am not that familiar with pro96com so I am not really sure about the data I am looking at. I don't have a PSR-800 and was going to get one but now maybe not.

My 800 arrives today. I will let you all know. My guess is encryption. If it is provoice, u can decode with pc and sound card.

I received my scanner and set it up. I can confirm that comms are encrypted on phase I and phase II. It is not ProVoice, either. Every transmission over the last hour has been encrypted. Another one has fallen off.

Marshal's Dept. is on the new 800 system. Columbia Co. BOE police have a talk group as well.

Supervisors have a different model radio and can make "private calls" via a touch pad...

What is BOE? And are you able to pick up voice comms without encryption?

BOE = Board of Education. As far as I know, all comms are encrypted.

I doubt CCSO can patch Richmond Co. I don't think Palmetto 800 allows for any patching, although when I last attended a Pal 800 meeting (about 5 years ago), they did say that they would have some interoperability with the NC Viper system.

I suspect the troopers are using radios loaned by RCSO. I also suspect that Columbia Co. may provide them with the new 800 radios as well...

The radios used by GSP are bought by the state of Georgia. They contain zones with APD, Fulton Co., etc., and the troopers have to go to Atlanta for any programming changes. Their code plugs are password protected BTW....

Word has it that when Martinez Fire switches to the new system, they'll simulcast on VHF so the volunteers can get calls on their personally owned radios.

Its amazing that with all these systems going encrypted, the price of scanners on the second hand market is still really high. You'd think that will all the bands going quiet and with all the trouble people are having trying to monitor even the unencrypted systems there'd be a fire sale going on.

It's a shame more people drank the kool aid and did not show up at those meetings and say "we don't want this."
