Default Fayette Co. TRS what scanner do I need

I have a friend that wants to listen to Fayette county TRS, mainly Fayetteville and Peach Tree city. What Radio Shack scanner does he need? I read in the database its a Motorola type 2 smart net but is the system been rebanded completely?

thanks,
Glenn

Fayette county uses a rebanded Smartnet II 800MHz analog system currently, so any recent analog trunking scanner will work, you will have to load the rebanded frequency tables.

They do plan on replacing this radio system in the next 2 years from what I heard at a GEMA interop exercise, most likely with a phase 1 P25 digital system, but are like everyone else, working on securing funding to do so. Motorola ends support for Smartnet II at the end of this year.

So keep this in mind if buying a NEW scanner, you might try to find a used Trunktracker analog, just make sure it's not a really old one that won't do rebanding.

Thanks for the help. Here in Bell County Texas, its EDACS and they wanted to go to PROVOICE but all that fell through because of funding issues.
When I looked in the database, I saw Moto smart net II and I was wondering if the info was wrong.

It's correct, can attest, monitor it every now and then. FWIW, there are only a few analog 800 systems left in the Atlanta area, Fulton county, MARTA (which is a mixed mode system), Fayette county, and Rockdale (though they soon will be a phase I P25 system by this time next year).

It's a wise choice if one is buying a NEW scanner to go ahead and buy a P25 capable one, as this is what you will need if you want to listen to any P.S. stuff in metro Atlanta. Some of the outer counties like Cherokee and Douglas are still on analog, as is Clayton county (though this will soon change).
