GDOT took out almost all of their radios from the vehicles and replaced them with Southern Linc and cell phones.

Is this still the case? Any use of a radio system(s) at all?

What about Emergency Management?

Thanks!

Last I heard both are still on Southern Linc.

Unsure if any legacy equipment is in reserve for emergency use.

Several counties still have FCC licenses for VHF low band EMA state net - unsure if any regular tests are ever conducted.

Thank you! Updating my "on road" list which consisits of Highway Patrol, DOT, & EMA, and select other comms only.

Yes, we have no SouLinc?

I have heard that the Southern Company plans to phase out customer use of the Southern Linc system by the end of 2016. If this is indeed true, any speculation as to where GA-DOT will land communications wise?

That's not what their PIO said lasy year, they committed to operating the iDEN network through at least 2020, unless they've changed their mind since, which is entirely possible. I know they have been watching the TETRA rollouts of some of their competitors in the utility business, and they do have plans to roll out an LTE system along side their iDEN network on band 26. Should be interesting to see how the two co-exist on the same spectrum at the same sites.

As such, since SoCo is so friendly with the state, if anything, they might eventually start moving PTT/dispatch over to VoLTE when SoCo gets their LTE up and running and some enterprise devices become available.

The HERO 800 radios are cross programmed on Atlanta, Cobb/UASI, Fulton, DeKalb for interoperability only. The DOT does not use any 800 radios for their own communications.

thats confirmed by me with my xts2500..

So you're saying you have a radio programmed on the Atlanta city DTRS?
