Doraville (Atlanta) GA PD Shooting Today

Heading home from work......stuck in traffic near Doraville as I was approaching I-285. Doraville is north of downtown Atlanta in DeKalb County.

ScanAtlanta.com webring member - Richard, who works in the newsroom of Fox-5 Atlanta advised me the following.

Doraville PD attempted a traffic stop for seatbelt violation.

Vehicle attempted to elude after officers made initial contact with occupants. Since traffic was getting heavy, they backed off the pursuit. These goofballs continued fleeing anyway, wrecking into another vehicle and leaving the scene.

Doraville PD boxed them in near the Gen Motors Assembly Plant close to I-285. Front seat
passenger decides to take on officers by firing his pistol. Officers return fire striking him.
Doraville PD officer-medic attempted first aid to no avail. Perp deceased on scene.

Kinda spooky seeing the crime scene tape over the hood of the Explorer....must have been a dozen PD units on scene w/ 3-helos in the air.

Chalk up one for the good guys. Scratch one off for the bad guys.
