• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Was just curious if anyone is running a gmrs repeater in the philly metro area (delco, montco, chesco) that are usable? I know theres a lot of info on the Mygmrs.com website but a lot of it is back logged info most are now offline. If anyone has one or know one around the area that could list the info id appreciate it.

Try this website: myGMRS.com - GMRS Repeater Directory it is dedicated primarily to GMRS and lists GMRS repeaters, locations and such. It is free to join (with a GMRS call sign of course) There were a number of repeaters in PA but as I'm not familiar with the towns and cities, I'm not sure if any are in the area of interest.

Yes you certainly did. I must have gone brain dead for a moment. - Can't take me anyplace I guess. If you haven't joined already, it may be worth checking their forums as well. Some of the people on them have helped me in the past.

There's one in Swedesboro NJ on 625 but its closed and they get butthurt about people coming on. They use a split PL that I dont have in front of me. Lots of ragchewing about antennas and cables.

Thanks for the info dan. I wish there were more local and according to mygmrs there was a ton at one time but it looks like 90% of them were decommissioned. I guess it time to look into a ham license thanks again for the input.

Eh, if ragchewing is your thing, go for it. I had one but let it expire because I asn't into 10 minute conversations about coaxial cables.

The problem with GMRS is the groups that use them like to keep them low key, so they dont advertise them. Theyre out there, though. If you have a scanner that searches PL run it on the GMRS output freqs. You'll find something.

i know what you mean Dan, no i kind of just like to talk about normal things maybe some public safety or stuff going on around the area. I know theres a few systems that are related to ex law enforcement but they want money and after an 85 dollar license and about a grand into radios who wants to dump more money out of their pocket they dont have, just to do a little chattering. I do understand there's upkeep but some of these clubs are crazy with membership fees. Again thanks for the info and hey maybe ill come across a open one sometime.

I recently moved from the Philly - Trenton NJ area and there were several active - open repeaters in the area, including several that the owner of mygmrs.com operates. Could talk from Trenton to New Brunswick and out to the new egypt speedway on 539 most days.

There is a group of active/retired fire fighters and law enforcement in philly and bristol pa that have repeaters up, i would hit it just above Princeton and use it down into Delaware on I-95
