• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Can somebody please post a direct link to the FCC application page and any related online account setup info that I need. Google is normally my friend, but for some reason, I'm having a hard time finding these.

Also, I know that for Ham licenses, the user's address is public knowledge. Is that also the case for the GRMS license that doesn't require a test?

Also, once the application is submitted, how long does it take to get approved? What is the process—do you get a card in the mail or via email?

Thanks

Hi dragon48, check out this page from the Arizona GMRS Repeater Club which details exactly how to apply for and obtain your GMRS license, including all the links to the necessary FCC pages.

AGRC - Getting Your GMRS License

Let me know if that doesn't answer everything you need to know to apply for and obtain a GMRS license. You are

Yes, your address will be publicly searchable/viewable. One option is to use a PO Box. See my license - WRAA720.

This can vary, mine took about 2 weeks, and I've heard it taking as quickly as a day and as long as 4 weeks. Check back daily with your FCC Universal Licensing System account. You will likely see it available there before you receive any mailed confirmation. You will be able to download and print all the authorization documents.

Step 1 - obtain an FRN from here: https://apps.fcc.gov/coresWeb/publicHome.do
Step 2 - apply for license using "online filing" here: FCC Universal Licensing System (ULS): ULS Home
Step 3 - pay the fee and get your license no later than the next day

Found this using google: https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/suppor...rces/applying-new-license-universal-licensing

You will not get anything via mail. Check your FRN to see what license is approved and print it out. All your information will be public.

I do the PO Box thing - specifically for my license

I initially did that because I own quite a few web domains and have to list an address on them and 1 box is cheaper than privacy for the domains. I also got a google voice account for them too.
