I just need to know where in North & South Carolina are repeater bases from license GMRS users before i apply for mine.
That way i know im covered from the other side if im travling around both states and I can call for help on the emergency channel 20 on subcode 22 which is 143.0 Hz i think.

If you have an emergency situation, I would think a cell phone would be your best option to call for help.
Google has links for your question above.

you know cell phones dont generally work in most areas thats why i was saying about the GMRS emergency channels but its the thought that counts.
I knew someone would mention a cell phone
but google is my friend but i would really want to here from someone thats actually here in RR so i know.

go to myGMRS.com - GMRS Repeater Directory
under advanced search, select the state or states that you're going to be operating in, click 'search' for the results
462.675 with travel tone of 141.3 is probably what you're thinking of
there may be other repeaters operating that have not registered on mygmrs.com, or you may want to call on 462.675 in simplex if there's no repeater in your vicinity

Gmrs
I can only help you for western NC and also for Ga and Ala - In western NC, use 462.550 (PL 127.3). It has great range because the repeater is on Cowee Bald mountain. There is a North Georgia GMRS website so check it out for repeater sites. Virtually all of the top half of GA is covered by repeater sites (or will be soon). There are also two associated GMRS repeaters NE of Bham and near Huntsville in ALA.

I'm sure you didn't mean to imply that cell phones are the most reliable means of communication, and never fail, right?

I went down to florida and i been picking up alot of GMRS users around the channels 18-22 a few months ago, once i go back down i might write it down next time but while on the highway and as far as i was going, i know they were pretty far away after 20 minutes of a ride.
Didnt someone say the bubble packs wont work with the GMRS repeaters?

Check Out Mygmrs.com
MYGMRS.COM, provide by Rich is a huge and great resource to GMRS operaters. And list two area machines for Florida, which I planed on using when I attend the area.
