Cool icom ic-v8

I have read that this one can be modified to tx on murs chs. Can I do this myself? Do I have to pay someone to do this for me? I'm only interested in murs.

you can find the MOD on MODS.dk website, which usually requires a removal of a resister that are very small. So yes you can do it your self, and you could have to pay some one..if you do it your self be very careful, some times removing the wrong resister can cause some serious harm, and on some radios you loose certain menu items, I know with my FT60 if you mod it you loose the EAI feature. And some kenwoods you loose the odd shift feature.

Yes. The icom v-8 is easy to mod. Check mods.dk - Modifications for radioamateur or QRZ.COM Callsign Database
The mod is listed....how ever take note,as I'm sure others will mention that even though it's capable of murs it will not be legal on murs.
If you do it,you might want to keep it under your hat.

Default thanks on the v-8 info...

I have seen one of these for sale, so I know that it is possible. I am aware of the rules, and police, and parameters of the radio.

You can easily modify it.

However....

It is illegal to use this radio to transmit on any band other than the Amateur 2 meter band.

The radio does not have type acceptance for any other service.

MURS is totally illegal.

For those who... *only want to listen* snicker.. snicker... no modification is required, sincwe the receiver already covers these frequencies.
