Default Dumb Question?

Ok, I am new to radio, and still learning. My friend and I are wondering if its possible to talk to someone on GMRS from an 800Mhz radio? My guess is a patch needs to be in place. Anyone know of any such patch in Maricopa County, AZ?

BOHICA.... it is possible, and plausible, but legal i don't think so, 800 mhz is meant for public safety. GMRS is in the 460 and in theory you can link repeaters but the chance of someone linking a gmrs to public safety i doubt it will happen,

Ok, thats what I thought. We stumbled across some business band 800mhz radios, but we are all licensed for GMRS and have GMRS radios. just trying to find a way to get it to work. Thanks tho!

I would say sell those 800mhz radios on ebay and take the money from those radios and purchase yourself a decent GMRS 50watt repeater and high-gain antenna. You'd be surprised how far that will get you!

To the best of my knowledge, there are no 800 mhz allocations for any personal (i.e., "citizen's") radio service, or amateur for that matter.

And I am no expert on radio, but I am sure it IS possible to work, however not practical. How many radios are you talking about here?
