Default PSR 500 or PSR 600

I have the 996t in my vehicle, and will be purchasing either the PSR 500, or 600 for the home. I can't decide which. My first thoughts are too purchase the "PSR 500" for the home. This way I could also use it to carry outside(football games, ect.).

I would use a different antenna than the rubber duck, that comes with it. My question is, wouuld the PSR 500 work well, as a "base"? Sound quality, loudness.ect.?

Thanks

Smile PSR 500 or PSR 600

I have the PSR 500 and I really take it every where I go. The sound to me seems to be fine and if you aren't happy with the sound you could always add a speaker. The PSR 500 is just an amazing scanner which I don't choose to be without. You can always mount the PSR 600 in your vehicle, but not going to be able to take it to say air shows, sports activities etc. Just my 2cents worth.

A portable will never have the 'sound quality' of a base/mobile. Using an amplified speaker in a car will increase the volume. At home, I don't use external spkrs with my portables. But, I do with my bases. I agree with the other poster about getting a portable, hard to take a mobile to a game

When i use my GRE500 in the car i use the RS Lapel speaker clipped to the seat belt by the "ear" with a piece of wire shorting out the volume resistor...The wire goes from the base of the antenna connection to the base of the external speaker hole...It becomes very loud....Here in ILL on the 700/800mgz Starcom Digital system the stock antenna actually works great but i do use the RS800 rubber duck which is fine on most all bands seeing the scanner overloads near cell towers bad....

Flexibility of being able to carry the scanner on walks, sports events etc makes the 500 a better choice.

If you were only scanning in your home I would say the 600, but since your not go with the 500.
