Inspect carefully what ever you purchase at HRO, they are selling returned/defective merchandise, repackaged and sold as new.

ive purchased 4 GRE scanners from HRO in the last 2 years and they were all brand new, completely flawless, with super low serial numbers too. i think they bought a bunch of them when they very first came out and are still trying to get rid of all of them, hence their cheaper then eveyone else prices. ive only purchased online though, never in person in a store.

Advanced Specialties has them for $449 and they toss in a good quality DC power plug as well. They've had that DC plug deal since the 500 first hit the market. Best deal around, even though it's only about a 20 dollar extra. I bought my 500 from them when they first came out.

You might want to consider the Radio Shack PRO-106 (basically the same scanner). There is one for sale here on RR for a good price right now.

Universal Radio had them at Dayton for $399...either 500 or 600...your choice.

Great price - best in Canada - but if its the "C" / Canadian version of the GRE then the warrenty is NOT valid in the US (as other Americans have found out when their radio needed work).
