Default Uploading to GRE-600

I've been trying all day to upload from software to my scanner with negative results. Is my scanner supposed to be on a certain setting? I can't figure what I'm doing wong. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

  1. Have you ever been able to upload to the scanner before this?
  2. Did you load the drivers for the cable BEFORE you connected the cable to the computer?
  3. Have you looked at Device Manager in your computer to see if a USB port has been assigned to the cable?
  4. Is that the same port the programming software is using?
  5. Which programming software are you using?

Here are my answers to the best of my knowledge:
1) no...I've only has scanner 3 weeks.
2) I don't believe I loaded rhe driver before hand
3) device mgr seems ok
4) I think so
5)I downloaded ARC software directly from RR.
I appreciate any help, not really a computer person, used to the old programming style (manual).
Thanks.

In ARC500 when selecting Upload to Scanner a dialog offers a pulldown comport selection.
Your reply above to step 2, 3 & 4 are vague.

The drivers are required and if loaded you will see a USB to Serial port assigned in Device Manager. Expand the + next to Ports (COM & LPT). If none is listed the drivers aren't loaded. If a port is assigned, then select that port in Pulldown dialog during above operation.

The drivers are in the CD which came with the cable and you must follow the instructions in the pdf file with the CD. I.e. do not plug cable into USB until CD is inserted and ready to go.
