Default TG creation from a Wildcard with no duplicates

Ok have had my PSR500 for about 8 months now and starting to try and get into some more in depth stuff.

Is there anyway with the the 500 connected to the computer and using WIN500 (excellent software BTW Don. ) to get it to create new TGIDs when it hits something new, to create the new TGID as new object that is NOT already in the system.

For instance, lets say that I have XYZ PD Dispatch as a TG already in the scanner but no other TGs. Let's say the wildcard is enabled and it finds a Tactical channel that is not in there. Can I get it to create an item for the Tac channel but not create one when there is more traffic on the Dispatch channel?

I just don't want 100 copies of a TGID in there when it's already in the scanner.

I thought "Auto-create new TGRPs from Wildcard hits" on the Monitor tab was what did this?

Well I had "auto" on the other day and it created a dupe of a TG that is in another scanlist. I'll have to move the the wildcard back into the scanlist with the TGs.

Yeah, I think it's only looking in the scanlist you have the Wildcard in.

Herein lies my problem, the P25 system I am monitoring (NC Viper) and my general location makes it nearly impossible to not get neighboring counties TGs mixed in with the wildcard. I have each individual county's law enforcement, fire and EMS/Rescue in individual scanlists so I can limit what comes through.

I'm guessing I'm going to have to setup a VS where everything is in one list so I can search for just the new stuff or the stuff that I don't have in the scanner.

I've found that it's almost always better to dedicate a radio to either searching or scanning. You can mix the two functions more than ever with the 500, but even at that level of power you're going to notice conflicts between the two goals.

One thing that's helped me here and there is to set up separate TSYS's for monitoring and searching trunked systems. One will be set up just like I want when listening. The other will be in one bank and will have locked-out TGRP objects for all the TG's I don't want to hear. Admittedly, it takes a lot of memory blocks, but this is another good reason for a search-oriented VS. I use them heavily, and am VERY happy with their performance.

I'm not 100% sure, but where it says on the general settings tab in Win500 "TGRP's in disabled SLs = Locked Out" doesn't that mean if you have a scangroup disabled, the wildcard will skip adding a duplicate TGID that it finds? If so, then you need to make sure the box is checked for that, and then turn off the surrounding area's scanlists when you're scanning local, and it will do what you need. At least that's the way I understood it from reading about it.

Hope this helps.
