Default Radios need repair

I have a bunch of GRE scanners including the GRE PSR-500 and Radio Shack Pro-97, Pro-96, Pro-2052 and Pro-2055 radios. I recently purchased a used PSR-500 and found that the antenna connector seems to be broken internally (poor signal unless you move/hold the antenna to one side) and needs a replacement keypad as the ledends have worn off.

In addition, my RS Pro-96 is sick with some type of logic problem and I was wondering if anyone knew where to send the radios to be repaired? Do the GRE-brand radios go one place and the Radio Shack models go someplace else?

I know someone out there has allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the answers and I'd appreciate any members who have the info.

Jim

First of all, the Pro-2052 is listed by the RR Wiki as being a Uniden built unit, the rest are products of GRE. Personally, I would drop a trouble ticket on GRE and also one to Uniden for the 2052 to see how they say you should handle things. You might have to register on each Web site first.

For the RS branded scanners, you can bring them to a local radio shack store and they will ship it to their repair facility. I would be interested in if GRE would repair RS branded scanners. Same with Uniden.

A number of early PSR-500 owners have found a loose screw for the antenna inside their units. Read Loose screw inside the GRE-COM PSR-500 Scanner for details and a helpful picture. The repair for this one is quite simple if you have anything resembling basic mechanical skills.

Alot of scanners have the antenna jack soldered directly soldered to the circuit board. This is too rigid, especially for a portable unit. I've re-soldered these connections only to have them break loose sometime later. I usually install a small section of stranded wire (in between the board and antenna jack) which creates some flexibility. I've also "fixed" alot of scanners that had no (or limited) receive caused by the break.
