I can't help you with the programming part, but you will have to install the drivers for the cable before you can "talk" to the scanner from your computer. The critical point in installing the drivers is DO NOT plug the cable into the computer UNTIL after the drivers are loaded. Instructions should have been included with the CD that came with the cable or you will have to download the drivers from GRE.

I have read several people say that they just plugged the USB cable in to their computer and the computer found the drivers and were up and away. Others have said they should never have used the CD that came with the Cable. What to believe???

Connect the cable to the PC. You should get the New Hardware Detected Wizard. Follow directions then plug into the PC/IF port of your scanner (do not use the extension part of the cable that comes with the Radio Shack cable). Open your software and import your system then upload it to the scanner. About as easy as it gets.

scnnr, it depends on the operating system of your PC. Many running Vista have reported that they did not have to load the drivers which I find pretty amazing, but I cannot confirm one way or the other. I run XP Pro and I had to install the drivers. My cable came with a CD which contained them, and yes some have reported problems with installing them. Considering the number of people that are using the cables, the percentage of those having trouble is very small.

Ok getting late here but I will help out for a bit .

I see you are a premium subscriber and that you have PSE EDIT 300. I have been playing around with it for a few days now.

First thing you need to do is open up the program.

Then on the tool bar click on import and then on Radio Reference .. A box pops up fill in your user name password and then click on safe and then query RR web site.
Click on the drop down tab and find your country . State and county ( Hamilton ) I imagine..

click on drop down arrow and choose you public safety system

click on transmitter site and choose the tower you want or just click select all if that works.

Where it says agency group click on there and make your choices .

Just play around with it and once you have all banks loaded up with what you want hook up the cable and upload it to the scanner
Save your work as well

Walt I should mention when choosing talk groups since this is a analog scanner I would check off the box exclude Digital & Encrypted TG's

also do not plug cable in until after you install the drivers, then be sure the comports match up ... that is the software is the SAME as shown in the device manager on the PC

help ! , i'm stalled out , i have successfully imported the trunked system freq's to the PSREdit software , no problem , i just can't figure out how to import them to the 300 , when i hooked up the cable - radio to the laptop , i clicked on upload frq's to the 300 , popup shows download process , and then says complete , the radio on the other hand does not seem to be accepting them , it says clone mode , incorrect model - remove cable . is there something i'm supposed to do to the radio , before i connect it to the laptop , other than turn it on ???? , or do you think i may not have been able to correctly install the drivers , how would i know if i did it right or not ?

I believe some of the software has drivers...I installed ARC300 on a new netbook and did not need to install the GRE cable driver. It works just fine.

ALABAMA RS : i clicked on the radio tab , and it gave me 2 diff. choices - PSR300/400 or PRO 163/164 , that is the one i clicked on , the bottom choice said PSR300C / 400C , should i click on it instead , how would i know if i have a 300 C version radio ? , it does not have a "C" on the back plate on the radio .

THE JERK : i purchased / downloaded PSREdit -300 , do the drivers install automatically on this ??? , i never saw an option to download drivers seperately ?????

The C model is for outside the USA.. Canada etc ) choose the 300 model. It's probably not the drivers if you are importing ok tho. could try an reinstall of the cable drivers If ya need/want the file I have for the divers tat workedthe easiest for me PM & with an email address & w will send em right off for you

Scnr : i did that on the radio drop-down menu and clicked on the PSR300/400 , i had the cable connected to the radio at that time , it showed it downloading on the laptop screen - the percentage completed , when it got to 100% the screen went off , but the scanner screen said : incorrect model - remove cable . one thing i forgot to mention was that the scanner screen reads CLONE MODE - press up to send , remove cable to exit , it does this automatically when i plug the USB CABLE in . is there some setting i should have the scanner in to load the frequencies into it from the software ????

paul : i used the following driver site , furnished by the guy on ebay who sold me the cable - GRE Drivers.rar , i never thought , but could these be outdated drivers ?????
