looks like a remake of PSR-200 and PSR-300

I am inquiring with GRE regarding firmware support for these re-branded scanners.

We know that the RS units need to have RS specific firmware upgrades, WHAT ABOUT THESE?

I just recently purchased a new GRE PSR-300 and it came with firmware version 1.06 which I immediately upgraded to version 1.07. I hope that these scanners will be supported by the regular GRE updates.

Probably be about whatever arrangement that GRE has with Radio Shack I would think.

Maybe. I did notice a "Download" link for the USB cable (which they currently do not have a picture or pricing on).

There is NO download link on either of the scanner pages.

I see you are offering a new GRE re-branded scanner. I would like to know two things.

1. What is the current firmware version that is installed?

2. How are future firmware updates made available? From you or directly from GRE?

1. don't know yet. they are not available until december for us.

2. will be from gre as they are our support for this product.

As far as I know the MFJ branded versions should use the same firmware as the GRE versions.

GRE knows how to pimp out its technology

I thought all the GRE built radios (including the radio shack models) used the same firmware as their equivalent GRE radios being that they are literally the same radio....

They are functional equivalents, but not identical. There are header bits set so that the RS units won't load the GRE firmware basically.

It's why I didn't buy a RS model, I just don't think they will be around for a whole lot longer.

Ok, I give... Why would anyone buy that, when they can just buy the GRE (unless there's some HUGE discount for the MFJ version)?

I wonder if MFJ is doing any aftermarket cold-joint customizations? Maybe snipping some grounds or removing some shielding at least.
