Question Gen. q. about firmware

I might buy the GRE-300 in a few weeks. Should it already be upgraded
with the firmware for the rebanding? (I'm new to all this so this might be
worded wrong).

When I talk to the salesperson is there anything I should ask about?

I bought mine a little over a month ago, it was the old firmware...get the cable and supporting software, makes life easy. Updating the firmware is easy...but you need the cable to do it.

To the Jerk. Is that the same cable I would get to program my scanner via
my PC that is on my wish list?

Check out programming software for the 300 at www.starrsoft.com . I think there was cable information on the site, but I can't find it now. You can order the cable off the net or wherever you purchase the radio. The software for the PSR-300 is called Win97 and will make your life a lot easier, especially if you put a lot of data into the radio.

I have heard from people who have bought new PSR-300s that had v1.02 and others (including myself) that came with v1.06. The newest version is 1.07, but it only has minor changes from 1.06.

There is really no way to know in advance what they are going to sell you. But once you get it, it is easy to determine the version in there. If you have the USB programming cable, it is not difficult to update it yourself. Personally, if you have at least v1.06, I'd say let it be. If you have anything earlier than that, then I'd upgrade to v1.07.

People have reported different experiences with different SALES people. Some are very knowlegable while others do not know much. I'd hate for you to be misled with incorrect information. You should be able to learn anything you want/need to know from all the people here at RR.
