You probably need to assign to a scan list & enable that list

FUNC>PGM>F1 (Load)>DOWN to desired V-Folder>F3 (Load)>F1(YES)...Wait then press SCAN. Scanlist 1 should be working. Toggle other list by pressing numbers 2 through 0 for first row or FUNC + 1 through 0 for list 11 through 20.

Check the frequencies in the scanner And compare to what is in the RR database & compare & see if Vscanner files are current. and if they only use the Control channels , they may have changed, (and some do change on regular & irregular basis).

well, im stumped.ive tried what fmon said, and it says nothing is enabled.ive tried to find how to enable scanlists for that v-folder but im missing something obviously.the manual isnt the greatest either.you would think that if you loaded a v folder into the memory,it would show it with the scanlists provided.what am i missing?

Which V-Folder are you trying to start? It would help if you would return to your User CP and add a state to your location. Not all of us are well enough traveled to know where oshawa is.

Did you press the number on the key pad corresponding to the state your are trying to open? That is necessary in order to put it in working memory.

Okay, once again I will ask you to please return to your User CP (the left side of the second blue bar from the top of any page if you are logged in) and add Ontario to your location in your profile. That will go a long way to help us in the lower 48 states help you.

I must also advise you that your scanner is a Canadian Model which has different V-Folders loaded than the GRE models sold in the U.S. Otherwise I could have told you which Scan List to enable, but now we will have to enable them all.

Each V-Folder is chuck full and all the Scan Lists are utilized as a memory saving method to get all the information to you for a "plug - n - play" type way of getting started.

Now, follow fmon's instructions. You can pick it up from where you want, since you seem to have part of it down, but here it is from the beginning.
  1. After powering on and seeing the Welcome screen, press FUNC > PROG
  2. Press "Load" which is over the F1 soft-key
  3. Using the 5-way key, scroll down until you see, "05: *****." (I don't know exactly what the rest of the wording is since your V-Folders are different than mine since I'm in the States.) This is the "vs05" folder you say has the system(s) you want to listen to.
  4. Press "Load" again, which is now over the F3 soft-key
  5. Press "Yes" which is over the F1 soft-key
  6. Wait until the folder is loaded. It will beep at you.
  7. Press SCAN
  8. The scanner will now reboot itself and then start scanning. If you get the "Nothing Enabled" warning, start pressing number keys on the scanner's key pad (beginning with 1) one at a time (DO NOT HURRY this process as it takes the scanner a second to release each Scan List you enable into memory). Each area has its assigned Scan List so you may have to enable most of them until you get to your area's Scan List. If you have to go past Scan List 10, press FUNC before pressing the number key to enable Scan Lists 11 through 20, or however many it takes to find your area.
Once you find your area's Scan List, you can unable all of the other Scan Lists that mean nothing to you leaving only the one for your area enabled.

Please add your state to your location. Just to humor me.

But you still did not put Ontario in your location.

What do you see on last line after turning scanner on? It should be the name of the V-Folder you selected to Load. If not, then you missed a step in loading.

When you were scrolling down through the V-Folders to get to folder 05, you should have seen like an index along side the folder's number telling what was in that folder. Did you not see that?

Another way is by using programming software you can access the contents of the V-Folders. Do you have any software? If you don't, you should consider it anyway. After all, this is your scanner and you should be able to program into it what you want rather than relying on something that someone else has entered into it. If you don't, this will be a drawn out process and cost some money because you will need some parts.

You will find the software recommended here:
  1. WIN500 (My personal favorite)
  2. PSREdit500
  3. ARC Software by Butel
All of them have a 30-day free trial period so you can try them all and select the one best suited to your needs. In this case, you could at least see your V-Folders. You will also need a cable so your computer can talk to your scanner. Either the 20-047 cable from RS, or the 30-3290 cable from GRE.

By the way, thanks for the location.

thx for the reply.yes,it does say ontario next to the vfolder number.on a whim,i loaded 2 other provinces into the main memory, and scanned.it showed all of the other preprogrammed scanlists, all enabled.im thinking there is something wrong with the folder, and i have reset the scanner numerous times to factory default, that is why i asked if there was anyway to see the contents of the folder.anyways, i guess im going to have to download one of the programs you have mentioned.thx for your help.

Wait. You have a GRE PSR-500, so you already have a cable for hooking the scanner and the PC. Make sure you load the drivers and when you do, make doubly sure that you DO NOT have the cable hooked to the computer until after the drivers are loaded.

Once you download some software then you will be able to see the folders...with some tutoring. I highly recommend WIN500 at this point because I'm better versed in its use.
