Default Prices

I tell you what 430 is a nice price and may work. But i also may be able to pay 300.00 from RS when it has the sale. From everything that i understand the 106/500 197/600 have the same " guts " . To get the same thing for 130.00 less is tough.I know CS with RS sucks and no download cable.I have a 500 and love it just trying to justify the difference

The Radio Shack versions were on sale last year just before Xmas for $200 off; I bought a -197 and have been very happy with it. True, it doesn't come with the programming cable, but that doesn't cost $200!

If they do the same thing this year I'm buying another one... they have been on sale around the last couple of holidays (Labor Day, Columbus Day) for $100 off... Veteran's Day is coming up (to say nothing of Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Xmas)... keep watching. To me, money talks!

Know what you mean - I live outside of Washington DC and I think this was one of the first areas to go digital... luckily most of the fire departments retained their VHF channels and were simulcasting (many still are). I held out for a year until there was some big police incident near me (can't remember what it was now!) and at that point I couldn't stand to be deaf any more after listening to them for 35 years or so! Price of admission to digital is steep, that's for sure. If you _save_ 200 bucks on something, the purchase price is definitely up there!
