Concur - open the case and re-seat the circuit card assemblies. Also check the BNC connector solder point. Best of fortunes.

This is what scares me about this radio. I'm such a total clutz with electronics. I've dropped my cell phone just about every day I've had it. Recently the latest victim of my clutzery is a Blade MSR mini electric RC heli (such a bad ass little bird though - I confess it's much more fun than my scanners). Fortunately, replacement parts are cheap, at least the ones I broke. I'll be picking them up today, but I digress....

I love the GRE radios other than the fact that you have to treat them like they are made out of glass. A suggestion to GRE would be to make the next generation much more abuse resistant. This is one area where Uniden owns GRE, and it's easy to fix.

I dropped my 106 a while back in a parking lot, it hit hard, the batteries went flying out , put a big place on the bottom, but it still worked fine. I did take it apart and reseated all the board connectors. RC helis rock, my son and I have one, I have an old Concept 30 SR-X. RC Aircraft Rules!!!!

I haven't dropped my 500 *yet*, but I did invest in a nylon carring case from Scanner Master, product Code: 01-581218. It is somewhat padded which I hope will offer some protection in case I do drop it.

best advice i received many years ago is to carry your radio when travelling or when you remove it from your usual post in bubble wrap. sounds crazy and inconvenient but will save on scratches and cushion most drops.

I've dropped mine 4 or so times. Each time the batteries went flying and a corner got a scar, but it still works fine. A case would have been a good idea....next time I guess!!
