Default USB-Lead

when down loading firmware,should your usb lead from the pc tp theG.R.E.-500 be hooked to the scanner or not.

No, you dont have to have the USB Cable plugged in when you download it from the gre web site. But yes, you will need to have it plugged into a usb port on the computer and into the pc/if connection on the scanner before attempting to upload the new firmware. Easiest thing to do is to do EXACTLY what the help file that comes with the firmware tells you to do. You will see the readme or help file with the rest of the firmware updates and the help file also shows you how to identify which version of software is currently loaded on your scanner so you can determine which file is correct.
