steve, i'm not debating that at all. both have some really great/not so great point's. love my psr-500,310,410. hated my psr-600 <outside antenna/overload>. definetly/totally hate my psr-120. can't even hold it out the window, and get the national weather service. don't know if it's overload,or a total piece of crap.
well actually i do know it's a total piece of crap = tpoc-120.

Well, let me say this about that, on the 120 I'd go with the last four words of your post.

So is this a discussion of GRE going out of business, or the 3,132nd Ford/Chevy thread?

Definitely the 3,132nd Ford/Chevy thread.
For what it's worth, I like / use both GRE and Uniden (but I do prefer Ford over Chevy (but yet I drive a Dodge) LOL).

I wouldn't say Uniden is eating anyone's "lunch" in any product category, let alone scanners, some of their cordless phones are a joke. Their customer service still stinks, and while their quality control is light years ahead of what it was back in the old BC-200XLT days, it's still pretty bad. I haven't kept a Uniden scanner long since my BC9000, and I only kept it because it fit on the shelf and scanned really fast, it was a pretty bad radio, RF wise. My 396XT and HP-1 went really fast. Not that GRE is perfect, I didn't like my PSR-800 much at all either. In general, since the RS Pro2004 came out, my "permanent" scanners have been GRE, with the exception of the 9000.

Seems correct answer to my original question was "No."

Can anyone provide a link to this outside of RR? Not saying I don't believe what others have posted in those threads, I just find it unusual it's breaking news on these forums but it doesn't seem to be any kind of news anywhere else.

I've been exchanging emails with GRE support about software issues and still got another one today, so someone is still working there and being helpful. I love my new PSR800 also and prefer it over past top of the line Uniden scanners I had. I always preferred how an company out of the spotlight can do more sometimes. I will be sad if we see no more from GRE though. I already find it hard enough to shop around due to few choices in scanners and handheld ham transceivers.

These forums are the largest assemblage of radio hobbyists
online. This is a small deal to the outside world. I trust that
since Lindsay, Jeff from Ham Station and Larry Van Horn from Monitoring
Times all have given the same statements then it is fact.
Don't buy into the conspiracy theory crap that trolls in other
threads in other forums are trying to pass off to create discord.

Owning the latest units from both GRE and Uniden, I think the gap in digital decoding has shrunk quite a bit with the latest Uniden firmware update. I live in simulcast hell and prefer my 396xt for traveling due to size, and it's superior performance on analog radio, especially milair. It stumbles a bit more than the 106, but not by much. I will say GRE voice quality with P25 transmissions is "more human sounding", but not by a huge margin there either. And as far as "superior GRE digital performance" goes....My PSR-800 is DEAF to at least one P25 sytem until it is miles closer to the site than my 396xt and 106 are, meaning the 800 and 106/500 are very different animals and that not all GRE scanners are equal.
One thing is beyond dispute. Both Uniden and GRE have their Pros and cons, and the competition created by having two big players means that scanner users benefit from an expedited roll-out of new technology. The death of GRE is not a good thing for future scanner development.

I'm not buying into troll crap. I'm a simple guy. Either show me some facts or I'll wait until I discover or see it for myself concerning things online. I can't count on 2 hands the times I've seen something similar happen on a "hobbyist" message forum only to later watch those who reported it clean egg off their face. I'm in no way trying to challenge anyone's credibility here but it's amazing what some people will do to stir folks up or cause a stink when anonymity separates them. All I'd like to see is a link/news report/company statement somewhere besides a message forum to verify it.

DUDE, i didn't kill em'. they commited suicide with the psr-120 !. all kidding aside, while that radio was a stinker, they did make some nice stuff. i've owned/still own gre equipment. as previously stated, competition is a good thing.

That's because there is no news anywhere else besides here. That was the FIRST thing that i did was check everywhere for a news release other than what was posted here.
This situation is like the shot heard round the world as all the message boards are abuzz with this besides RR.

You've had multiple scanner dealers post facts in that thread. You have several GRE employees (or former employees) post in that thread confirming the original post. (You may not know their handles as well as I, but if you follow some leads you can figure it out.)

There's a big difference between a "hobbyist" (aka the person in this thread who is taking a break from posting) and lblanton. I'm amazed that you think that's all the same.

Uhh, you do realize lblanton is not an anonymous fake name, correct?

You are completely missing the point. It's NOT at all about who they are, who they know, or who they heard it from. It's about ME wanting to confirm this news some place else BESIDES 2 threads on a message forum. Are we not able to verify our own information here because the "Boss" said it's true?
