Just purchased this, it is great but it is a battery burner. Can run it using a usb auto adapter in the car is there some way I can do the same at home. When I use my ac/usb wall plug it just charges.

Yes, I have an Android phone charger that works well in my PSR-800 in my car.

You should look at some of the older threads about adjusting the voltages in the EZ Scan software.
