Default New User PSR-800 Questions

Hello. New user for about 5 days. Not too many issues and enjoying the scanner thus far. A few things I can use some help with:

1. After setting us my Scanlists, is it possible to re-order them? In other words, after renaming the scanlists, can I place the third Scanlist at the top? I'm not seeing how to do this in EZ Scan.

2. When listening on an active frequency, I programmed the LCD light to stay on during the duration of the transmission. If I adjust the volume during the transmission, the light will go out after 5 seconds (current light setting). Is there a way to prevent this from occurring.

I've owned scanners on and off for about the past 35 years. The local PD went P25 and this scanner seemed like a great solution for me, except for having to reformat the SD card after about two days. I'm not seeing the paint issue yet with the face plate, but I do notice that my fingers produced what look like oil stains around the keys, which may lead to the wearing down of the paint. I can live with that until it gets bad and then I'll possible strip it off with a solvent.

Thanks for any help.

Gary

I finally stripped the face plate on my 800. I think it looks better than it did painted.

As for changing the order of the scan lists, I can't find any way to do that except to re-enter all the data in the slot I want it in.

How did you get the backlight to stay on for the duration of the transmission? My EZScan software only shows three options, On all the time, Off and On for xx seconds.

No easy way to move around scan lists. I usually just go to the scanlist tab and pick one I want to move, so I will pick one and move it to a empty scanlist spot, then go to the scanlist tab again for the one I wanted to move, and change its scanlist number to the one I moved previously.

If the light goes out while on, just hit the power button and it will come on for a short time again. Or just go into the menu and set the light to stay on all the time.

The paint on mine started to wear off after a couple weeks near the volume button. So I used a q-tip and wd-40 to remove the rest carefully. The glossy surface under the matt paint looks so much better once done, but takes a long time. I took mine apart, so I could remove the front cover, so I wouldn't get any wd-40 into it just to be safe.

Thanks guys for the replies. To answer jackj's question, one way you can keep the light on only during the transmission is to go the the Conventional Frequencies tab in EZ Scan and toggle (double click) Backlt/LED position in the grid and set the Backlight Mode to "On". You can also do this directly on the scanner, but that takes more time.

I know about hitting the power button to manually turn on the light. No biggie on that one. Just thought there was another way to otherwise keep the light on if the volume is changed.

Just curious if it's difficult to remove the front plate of the scanner when it comes time to strip the paint.

Thanks,

Gary

It wasn't so hard for me to remove the front cover. Just a couple small ribbon connectors to be careful disconnecting. They just pull out and push back in. I'm familiar with them from opening up apple computers. Other than that just a few screws to open and then a few more screws to remove a board from the cover and the keypad which also connects with another ribbon cable. I thought it would be safer or just give me more peace of mind to do it that way in case I got some debris or cleaning fluid inside while cleaning it. Turned out find and I got it all back together easily enough.

I cleaned my scanner's face plate without taking it off the scanner. I used several Q-tips moistened with Ops cleaner. Just gently rubbed an area until it was clean then moved on to another. Tried a small area in the bottom corner first to see if it would damage the face plate.
