Default PSR 800 vs. PRO 94

Hi all. I'm a recreational scanner with a pretty simple question: I'm thinking of upgrading from my current PRO-94 (about 10 years old, maybe more) to the PSR 800, which from what I've read, seems to be the cream of the crop.

Is it worth the expense? I'd like to get into scanning again and would like a good scanner I can utilize for many years to come.

Surprisingly the PRO-94 still works after the rebanding. My PRO 205 wasn't so lucky.

I'm living in Suffolk County N.Y., on occasion I can also pick up East Hampton system. Both are Motorola Type II Smartzone.

Thanks for any input.

I think its worth the money. Most of all I love the ability to record anything it hears onto the micro sd card, and i can play it back on the radio right away if I miss a call. Its solid and has really nice sounding audio. Been so happy with mine. Powers from USB too so no need for a bulky AC adapter. Clean and simple design. So much memory and all easy to navigate from the display and menus.

I have been using a PSR 800 in Suffolk for about a year and love it. Easy to update, quick to reprogram by zip code if you travel and very sensitive receiver. There is not much digital activity in Western Suffolk, but there is enough to keep it interesting. If you are not interested in digital, you can save some $ and get the PSR 700 or Radio Shack pro-107. If you can afford it, go for the PSR 800!

Have fun!
Bob

Love my 800..................I have almost the whole state of iowa programmed into mine to use when traveling for my job ( as a transport officer for a Sheriff's Office)

It's great

Even if you don't want the digital RIGHT NOW, you will in the next few years

Thank you for the replies guys. You made this much easier on me, I don't feel so guilty spending the money now, ha ha. I'm not the type to run out and buy new tech stuff every time a new model comes out, so I'll be holding onto this for a long while, it's worth the investment especially if my county expands it's digital coverage.

I've only had Radio Shack scanners, dozens in the house throughout my life and they've always held up great. It will be interesting to use a new brand with new technology, I'm already shopping for aftermarket antennas.

RS doesn't manufacture the scanners they sell. Most of them are manufactured by GRE, the same folks who make the PSR-800. They are RS versions of standard GRE models, in fact RS has their own version of the 800.
