Default Question for PSR700 & 800 owners

I am considering buying one of these scanners for work use and I am limited in the number of antennas on my vehicle. QUESTION: Will both of these actually receive the CB frequencies? I know what the specs are, I want to hear from someone using these scanners. I am particularly interested in 27.185 MHZ (AM). If you have one of these scanners please verify this frequency can be programmed.

Thanks.

Yes it can, but rather expensive for listening to cb.

Maybe I should clarify. I am transferring my personal radio gear from my old ride to a new work vehicle. I currently have a CB radio (I listen only), and a 780XLT, My new ride has limited areas for antennas. I can't move both the CB and the scanner antennas to my new ride. I hope to find a scanner that I can use to monitor both the CB frequencies and several public safety systems. (Yes, the 780XLT does both, but it will not fit anywhere in the new ride, besides it's an excuse to upgrade.)

While I currently have no real need for a digital scanner, I am considering it in anticipation of the changeover to P25 systems in the future. I do have access to a new PSR700 and if it is 27.185 MHZ (AM) capable I will probably go with that model.

Keep in mind that your antenna will be the most important requirement in this situation. If you will be listening to a bunch of 800 mhz ps systems with an antenna tuned to 800 mhz, you can pretty much expect nothing to be heard on the 27mhz freqs most of the time.

I do hear CB on my 800........................as long as I am REAL close to the source. & I mean REAL close.

I have a 800 mhz antenna outside the car.................on one vehicle

& a radio shack scanner antenna on another.

My guess is that if I hooked it up to a CB antenna there would be better reception

Same here, I have CB programmed in and use a discone, but I'm stationery. Picks up ok as long as they are close. Oh, I use the psr800 also.

I am a huge fan of GRE radios -- however, all things considered - if you don't yet have a need for digital, I'd wait until you really need it.

I've gone through the experience of trying to "get ready" over and over ... you just don't know what will be out there (better?) when you are really in need ... you never know.

On the other hand, if you have unlimited funds - dive in!
