Just ordered one for my son - who has never really been interested in scanners until now -- and just as he graduates from college!

He asked if he could have one of my existing radios but I told him I just couldn't part with them -- they are like my (other) children...

I am very tempted at purchasing one. I have been using a PSR-600 since '08 but really feel the need for a portable unit. In my opinion this is the best unit. My only hesitation has been the news about GRE overseas eventhough there is corporate support here.

Wondering if anyone shares my concern about buying a unit from a company that may not be able to provide future firmware updates in the future.

What do you think?

Right now it handles most of what is around . Any firmware upgrades.....well I guess it's not any different from scanner

As long as RR keeps allowing the software to update the database, it will still be one of the best scanners around until technology out paces it.

Like I said I just bought #2

Well after seeing the official press release made by GRE, I wouldn't worry too much.
