PSR 800's on sale new?
Anyone know where I can find a new PSR800 on sale? HRO had on sale black Friday at $379 but now $429. Since GRE stopped production I am thinking a few retailers may choose to deep discount to get rid of them.
Suggestions?
Thanks

Don't bet on the reduced price ...........................
Check ebay and when you see a price you want, take it
Google the unit and look for prices on other sites and when you find a price you are willing to pay take it because it might be gone tomorrow

Now, why would a retailer want to do this? This scanner is on the most-wanted list, even if people would want to claim otherwise. It's the only scanner to handle Phase 2 P25.
If retailers were smart, they'd add a couple hundred to the price -- there's always someone out there willing to pay the price.

Thanks for that link. The PSR 800 is discountined so I am still looking to get it for less. I know it does Phase 2 and I need that. But next generation scanners will do phase 2 and I am not sure how long GRE will support these scanners. I still think there will be a close out.
Am I wrong?

GRE has stated it is continuing to support it's products and will continue to service Alinco radios in the US
They are not going anywhere

At least 2 of us have said that probably is not going to happen.

Yes. The PSR-800 is the only scanner to handle Phase II, which many agencies are looking to switch over. It has, in no way, been "discontinued", GRE is in a holding pattern with any new product due to their factory shutdown. The still market and sell scanners that are older than the PSR-800 (like the PSR-500). Uniden hasn't really released much news on what they plan to do in the scanner industry, so your whole theory of the "next generation scanners" is probably at least a couple of years out.
In theory, demand will keep on going up while supplies keep on going down. I would expect to see a price increase if anything. You might be able to catch some holiday sales.

Limited supply equals either little to no discounts, or even higher than normal prices. NOT lower prices. LOL
Production is SUSPENDED for the time being as they no longer have a manufacturing facility for their scanners. A situation they are trying to reverse, but it is going to take some time to do, and even a bit longer for new product to actually hit the streets once/if they do manage to re-establish production.

while i do foresee either a crippling inability for gre to produce any more scanners,or the end for them, i do not think it will be "years" for uniden to come out with something new. they can capitalize on tdma, and make some bucks. they can also throw effort into taking over production of radioshack scanners again.
i don't think you will see much,if any effort from some of the communications receiver type producers, that throw scanning capability in, to produce anything to give uniden a run for their money. no insider information, just my thoughts.

That's what I did. Was in the hunt for a 800 to replace my PRO-106, and got an almost brand new 800 for $335 on flea-bay. Steal of a deal, and it has become my "go to" scanner. Looking at the listings for the 800 on flea-bay nowadays, I see the cheapest price is $399 + $10 shipping.
Hmmmm, just noticed that this is my 1000th post. Only took almost five years to get to this point. Really got to start contributing more. LOL
