Need help getting my three talkgroups in my PSR 800
Hello Everyone.
I am a happy new owner of the PSR 800 and got it on Friday. I need it because just recently my town of The Colony, Texas went digital and now uses Plano's P25 Phase 2 system. I paid the dealer (Scanner Master) to program in what I would need to listen to my town for $29.99. They happened to program in the old analogue conventional frequencies so of course I can't receive them because they are now digital. When I went into the EZ Scan programming system on my new unit, it still shows the old frequencies and the new digital talkgroups have not been updated yet to the system. So there is no way for me to download the new talkgroups that I know of.
Does anyone know how I can update my scanner with The Colony's three new talkgroups so that I can then program them into my scanlists and receive the transmissions? If you could just point me in the right direction, I would so appreciate it. I do know what the talkgroup numbers are because I found them here in RR but just don't know how to shift them into my scanner. I guess the guy who programmed it at the dealer didn't look at the new talkgroups on this site, like I did.
I have taught myself how to program it both manually and with the computer. I have also updated the system with the 1.7 upgrade. All I need now are to somehow get my three talkgroups loaded in.
I absolutely love this little gadget and am astonished with its capabilities but I can't figure this part out. If anyone could help me, I would sure appreciate it.
Thank you from Texas, SallySmith357

Did you update the library and write it to the radio/SD card? I believe the new system is in the current library.
Update...
I just checked and the current library shows 3 TG's for The Colony on the new system, so you should be able to import them.

Woot!!!!! I just knew someone would know! Okay, let me go figure it all out and how to do it. Oh man, I may be up and running before the night is done! Thank you so much. Didn't realize that's how you do it. Really appreciate this.
Will be back later if I can't figure it out to pick your brain!

Kevin, One little question....it says I will need to pick through the group of applications to get the right one that supports my type of radio. I don't see one that supports PSR 800s but I do see one that supports downloads of the P25 systems information. Is that the one I should use?
I'm getting close!
Thank you, S.

Sally,
Is the PSR 800 the only scanner that will work for the The Colony? I sold my Uniden 396T last week. I got the TGs, but most times it was a one sided conversation of poor reception.
Thanks
Chaz

You need to use the EZScan Digital application. If you follow the below link it is included in the zip file.

Kevin, A million thanks. Will let you all know how it goes. Fingers crossed!
Cforce tech, Yes, this is the only one that will pick it up. My friend has a newer model Uniden too and he is only getting approximately a third of the transmissions from TC. He swears by Uniden though and will wait until they get a scanner that will do the same as the 800. His is also hooked to a 10' antenna and it was pretty clear when I heard it the other day. Now off to attempt this download!

Kevin, Just today I already went to that link you posted and did the complete install of the 1.7 update. When I received it from dealer Friday it had the 1.6 version. Very nice man from GRE America walked me through it today.
I hate to be a bother and there's so much of it I don't understand but do you mean that in order for me to update my scanner database with the new talkgroups for The Colony, that I need to download the 1.7 update?
Sure wish the dealer had gotten it right...that's why I paid the $30 programming fee. Got it Friday and still not able to hear what I want. Very frustrating. Is this common for the programmers to get it wrong? This is the first time I've ever gotten to buy a fancy scanner like this.
Thanks again for any help!
P.S. (edit) Just to make sure I'm clear, after I did that update today. I went to program in my town from the internal datebase and it still had the old analogue frequencies to download. So then I came here on RR and found a list of the new talkgroups and I want to load them to my unit somehow. Ty

Go to the top and click on "Updates", choose "Check for Library Update" and follow the instructions. Don't forget to write it to the SD Card/Scanner when prompted. Then you can "Import" the new system.
This is assuming you already installed the software on your computer.

Okay, thank you so much for telling me how to do that, Kevin. I had indeed already installed the software the very first day I got it. I did everything you said and it worked out perfectly! Then I double checked myself by going to it again to make sure it had all updated and it said I had the most current update installed in my library now. It walked me right through it.
Not at all happy with what I have found though. It looks like out of the 180 updates that have come in the last three weeks, The Colony is not one of them! Could that be right? How long does it take to get the new talkgroups updated? The Colony changed over to digital on December 19, So it has been about three weeks ago.
The scanner gods are not working with me. S.

The Colony is in the library, I just triple checked.
Try this...
Go to Library Import
Choose Texas
Choose Counties\Cities
Click Next
Choose Collin County
Choose Systems
Click Next
Click Plano, Allen, Wylie, Murphy P25
Click Talkgroups
Scroll down to The Colony Police and click on it
The 3 TG's will show up in the box below.

Looking back through your posts it sounds like you may not be importing the new system from the library. Once you do that I think you'll be good.

Kevin, You're absolutely right. They were updated. I just did it wrong the first time. Between a great guy at GRE America and my new scanner friend from here, I have made vast headway. Am actually even learning many new things about the software and scanner. Incredible little scanner we have. I just wanted to say thank you for being so patient with me and helping me out and checking into things. It's always so nice to find folks whom are willing to share their knowledge. When mine is 100% running how I want, I will be sure and let ya'll know!
Thanks from Texas, SallySmith357

You're welcome, anything for another Texan...even if it is North Texas.
