Since it looks like GRE is getting out of the scanner business, finding a new GRE scanner will get harder and harder as time goes by. I was hoping that their statement about losing their manufacturing contractor was a temporary thing but, with continued silence from them, it looks like we should stick a fork in them, they're done. The next thing for you to do is decide if you want to buy an orphaned scanner.

This is a communist country we are talking about. Things move slowly when dealing with business's .

Give GRE some time ----its only been a couple months

As far as buying an "orphan". I bought my second 800 at Christmas time and would buy a third tomorrow if I had the bucks.

Try Craigslist. I've found some awesome deals there. I got my 800 for $175. The man that I got it from, his son liked listening to rail road stuff. The son died last year and the father just wanted to get rid of it. Some people will ship them especially if you pay with PayPal. Just a suggestion.

Also found out that they are going to quit making this scanner and also if somthing goes wrong with this scanner after 1 year I will have no recourse. Home patrol looks like a decent scanner ... Does anyone have an opinion on this what is a scanner that is close to the 800. As in in ecent post I am looking for somthing I can do nextedge or nxdn tyrpe of mode in niles michigan.... Thanks for any help ..... kc8ktn/chuck.

Silence? They released a firmware update last week for this "orphaned" scanner you are referring to. Unless there is something supernatural I'm not aware of, that takes people to make happen.

They just released an update last week for that scanner. The HP-1 can't do phase2 or PDMA which the 800 can do. Just my 2 cents worth.

WOW. I just ordered 1 from HRO Tuesday. I got that in time I guess. At that price I would have just went to the local CB shop who is supposed to still have them at $500.

I don't think you are going to see the price drop. Retailers like AES and Universal Radio are buying what they can find, there isn't many left and GRE isn't making anymore, at least not right now. The PSR-800 is the only radio that can decode P25 Phase 2. I picked one up yesterday for $429 shipped from AES, get them now while the price is still low.
