Also it does not come with a ac charger/ power adapter. Does anyine know if radio shack carries one. Does instructions recomend one. Again to all who gave me great advice and help make my mind up.... Everyone take care and great scanning..I am goin to figure out how to do the nxdn/nextedge digital mode and will post a step by step procedure on how to go about it... Again thanks..... kc8ktn/chuck.

Any USB micro power should work. If you have any old cell phone chargers laying around try them. I just use the PC's USB port.

It took me a few days to figure out the software. A few simple steps would be to rename the scanlists to what you want to monitor, like police or fire, then use the library import to make your selections and import them to the scanlists of your choice. Then copy config to SD card.

You should get the hang of it pretty quickly. I can assist if you are having trouble.

You bought a great radio. I would recommend using the import feature first, to get you started. Or, you can use the zipcode or state/county download option. Either way, it should get you started. If you want to build your own programming or modifying the existing list, you can. The help menu inside the software is easy to follow.

Good luck with your attempts at monitoring NXDN with the -800. You cannot monitor it or NEXEDGE directly with the scanner. However, you can use it in conjunction with DSD (Digital Speech Decoder). Here is the RadioReference wiki article on DSD: http://wiki.radioreference.com/index...ftware_package)

Got to say I am impressed. Put the batteries in, turned it on, set the time and followed the quick start guide. Had three scan lists with three local counties setup right away. Pretty easy to use right from the key pad but I can see how I want to use the PC to further customize.
