After all updates my 800 rendered useless
I just performed all the updates yesterday as well as the library. Then when I tried to send everything to the sd card in the scanner, it crashed the EZScan application every time.
Then I thought I'd remove the card and upload everything to it using the card reader built in to my Lenovo. That crashed the app as well. Then I decided to completely remove EZScan using Crap Cleaner, re-install and start over. Now at least the computer can see the card but I get another error popping up that has the code: Read of address 0B6FEFCC.
So, I go to the GRE site and see that the card may be corrupted and I should download SD Formatter and reformat the card. Format shows completed but the same errors. OK; bad card maybe. Get a new 2G card and do that. Still no go.
I am using Windows7 Pro.
Is there anyone that can help me succinctly determine the problem and get through it?
I have to wonder that even though when it works, it's wonderful but when it doesn't, it ain't easy to resolve issues.
Thank you in advance. I might be up to send the best helper a small jug of my Vermont Maple Syrup to get me through this.

just curious, did you reformat, then use the ez software to prep and optimize the card?
ive heard a bunch of issues with the SD cards, but ive dropped 5 different types,2 gig,4 gig,,8 gig
without issue..
mind boggling why this set up is so problematic..For so many.

Formatting SD Card
I reinstalled everything on my old XP Pro machine, was able to format the card with SDFormatter and then installed in the scanner.
Did the updates on the Windows7 Pro and it worked.
I rolled the Windows7 Pro config back before the latest update. There must have been something with the drivers in the latest update.
That's the only thing I can attribute this to.
Working now.
Thanks for the help!

EZScan won't locate the scanner on USB
I see the SD card contents on my computer when I use windows explorer but when I try to copy the library or configuration either way, EzScan shows no SD card. Somehow the application is not finding it. It will sometimes crash the program as well.
I simply plug the USB cable into the scanner, making sure it's powered off as well.
Any ideas?
Not a fun way to spend a sunny Saturday in Vermont.
Thank You.
Previous post reply, yes I followed instructions completely and it formatted properly. The scanner will work with the library but obviously I can't move any info into the scanner from the computer, with this problem.

I also use Win 7 and occasionally, using the USB cable, an external card reader, or even the internal card reader, the PC can't seem to see the SD card - not even Windows can see it.
Sometimes using a different USB port immediately solves the problem. Other times, a reboot of the PC solves it. But it always clears by one of these methods.
The problem is obviously in the PC (Win 7) - at least in my case.

Was PSR-800 rendered useless. NEW PROGRESS
I hope this update might be of help and someone could help me out.
The SD card was re-formatted, the newest library loaded in, placed in scanner and will work fine on its own. I have been selecting: STATE>COUNTY>DEFAULT and everything loads fine. Works ok.
Now, I plug the scanner in to any of the USB ports on the computer (Win7Pro).
1. USB initializes
2. Check windows explorer and I see the Scanner as drive D:
Click on "scanner/sd card" tab
3. Click on "copy configuration to scanner/sd card"
4. Up pops the overwrite warning
5. Get windows popup "Program has stopped working" and closes program. Error is APPCRASH and it lists EZScan, of course.
With any of the functions that try to communicate with the scanner, the app doesn't see it. I try to rescan when in the card screen and it sees nothing although, it's there in windows explorer as well as all the files with content.
Tried different USB ports, different cables, different, properly formatted SD cards etc.
What the heck happened?
I am hoping to get this figured out in the next couple of days so I can have a useful scanner on vacation.
Is it possible to get actual, human help by called GRE during weekday business hrs?
Thanks again to those who have tried to help.

PSR 800
The EZ Scan software does have some problems talking to the scanner in some situations. Many users have much better success using the SD card in a card reader and then putting it back in the scanner. This process is usually much faster as well as more reliable. Also make sure that you have all of the latest versions of firmware in the scanner and versions of EZ Scan on the computer.

Yep, I've also had problems using the card in the scanner.
In my case, using a USB port that is on the rear which is soldered directly to the motherboard usually worked for me but it is inconvenient with the hugh tower I have.
The front ports use a shielded cable that plugs into the USB headers on the motherboard. Even though this is a nice Antex case with what seem to be quality shielded USB cable from the front panel to the motherboard, the extra cable length does seem to cause issues somtimes.
I see you did try other ports though so that should have ruled that out.
The only thing I can think of that you did not mention is to right click the EZ-Scan icon and select to run as Administrator. Not sure if it will help but I do see I set my ez-scan shortcut to always run as admin.
You may also play around with the compatibility modes found under one of the right click properties menus. Try setting it to use XP SP3 mode for example.
Otherwise, use a card reader with the PSR-800's SD card in the reader and see if EZ-Scan then runs without error as jaspence mentioned.
I've had much less card corruption when using a card reader instead of working with the card in the scanner. I don't know why as my HomePatrol scanner works perfectly when reading/writing the card while in the scanner. Maybe a cheap chipset for the USB to Card slot interface is used in the PSR-800?
I've read many reports of card corruption when writing the card while in the PSR-800. You can do everything you need with the card in a card reader except set the scanners time!
Good luck and if you do find a solution, please report back what worked.
I too use Win 7 Pro 64 bit for the record.

Updates using card reader?
Are you sure about that? I thought the DSP and CPU updates had to be done to the scanner directly, when you hold the "menu" key down and plug in the USB cable to put it in the programming mode.
Thank you for the help. I had to give up on it yesterday and will try not ruin too much of my day today. The wife's list is too long to waste much time. No response for several days from GRE either. Nice.....

Programming Update Monday Morning
I can execute ALL functions with the SD card by using a card reader on my XP Pro machine. No problems.
Format, optimize, copy to/from etc. Card inserted in scanner works fine as well.
It's the EZScan app on Win7 Pro that's clearly the problem.
I was told to uninstall ALL USB drivers, reboot machine and let them re-initialize.
Nothing has changed.
Insert the card in the reader, use different USB ports, try to do anything with the application and the program crashes and closes every time.
Sometimes I get to the screen where you can "rescan" to locate the card. It can't find it.
Win7 Pro DID WORK OK when I first received the scanner last November.
I hope someone answers at GRE.
I am still looking for ideas.
Thanks all!

That is correct, the DSP and CPU updates must be done with the scanner attached to a computer.
The database updates and other database functions as well as your profile can all be manipulated with the card in a reader.

Update
Called GRE today and spoke with Epi for help.
After some time on the phone, we determined that ALL the USB ports on the Lenovo Thinkpad X1 running Win7 Pro, have corrupt drivers or have changed somehow. The built-in card reader won't communicate with the Micro SD either.
ALL functions for the radio work fine on my XP Pro machine and not at all on the 7.
It did work back in December so either a Windows update screwed it up or something else happened.
Next call is to Lenovo for help.
I'll keep updating.

konabrian, go to the Lenovo website and download the latest USB drivers, even if they are the same drivers you already have installed. Delete the existing drivers and install the ones you downloaded. Either you have corrupted drivers or there is a problem with your computer's motherboard.
Good luck

Just out of curiosity, how did you (and GRE) come to the conclusion that your computer's drivers have become corrupt or changed?

I would think that Win 7 should have the correct drivers for USB ports regardless. Now if they are USB 3.0 then that is another story.
If it's an Intel based chipset on the board, I'd try reinstalling the chipset INF file. That is usually the one needed for Win 7 to determine the correct drivers for things like the USB ports and other common hardware devices.
Even without the Intel chipset inf file installed, Win 7 will usually still run fine using its default drivers for the common stuff.
Being as nothing seems to be working with your USB ports could be a bad thing. Do they show errors in Device Manager?
If not, that could indicate a hardware failure like a blown fuse for the ports. Most USB ports are fused after the chipset so they will still appear as working to device manager. If you have anything USB powered like a set of USB speakers, if they power up when plugged into any port, that would verify the fuse is good. Some use an automatic device instead of a fuse also which is better as they will work again as soon as the excessive load or short is removed unlike a real fuse which blows for good. I would think a laptop would have active protection for the usb ports that resets itself verse a hardware one time fuse like is found on older motherboards.
Good luck and hope it is something easy!

USB Ports
I have one 2.0 and one 3.0. They both work for ALL my other devices, printers, sheet-fed scanner, other radios, external drives, video camera etc.
Just can't see the scanner or the SD Micro in a card reader.
Oddly enough, the GRE guy said it should work on the USB 3.0 as well.
Headed on a short Florida trip so will pick up where I left off in 6 or 7 days.
Thank you for all the ideas!
I will keep people updated as I can't imagine I'll be the only one in this group lucky enough to have such a wonderful, eye-opening learning experience.
I did go to the Lenovo site, eventually found the drivers page, clicked on the link and got the "Error 404". Please try back later.
It ends here for now.

Only based on the fact that it worked fine on the XP machine. I didn't even go into the details of the radio crashing the program when I tried to upload or download data and/or do CPU & DSP upgrades. We could do all those on the XP machine.

Sounds like the USB ports as well as their drivers are fine. When you plug up the wire for your scanner, do you get any yellow exclamation points on any devices in the device manager?

That is correct, the card or card in scanner can be updated via USB 3.0 ports no problem as long as those ports are working for other USB devices.
USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0/1.1 etc.
