You think this would be loud enough in a car? THANKS!
Yes I use this unit. It is amplified. Running the PSR800 at volume level 15 will be plenty loud. You do have to buy a cigar lighter plug though. It does not come with that.

Thank you. I just purchased one. I may wire it directly to the fusebox so I can keep the cigarette lighter free to power the PSR800.

You will not be disappointed. It is well built, quality speaker. I have to get mine connected up to the fuse box also. Just have not had time.

I bought this one. When it arrived I found out that it was not amplified. The volume was very quiet.

I think I may need an amp.

Did you buy the AES-4? It most certainly is amplified. Using a PSR 800 volume settting of 15 will be plenty loud. Above that setting gets extremely loud. Perhaps you got a defective unit.

The best answer to the low volume with the earphone jack problem is to bypass the resistor that lowers the signal level at the jack. Easily done on most scanners, like I did on my GRE/RS PRO106, Uniden BC235, etc.
I haven't opened up my PSR800 yet to look, but considering the "high tech" design of the radio, I'm wondering if they might use an attenuation method other than a simple resistor. The fact that the radio reports the jack is being used makes me wonder. Anyone disected their radio yet??
